We first saw these episodes when they were broadcast on PBS many years ago. Bob Larbey, the writer (sadly, now deceased,) did such a good job in presenting sort of timeless "human nature" comedies. Just as entertaining now, as ever.

Phil and Helen , were nice people , and they attempted to help Mike and Laura , with their troubled relationship . More often than not , Laura , was an embarrassment , and incredibly difficult at times to cope with . But , I always felt that they sincerely wanted the two of them , to be happy . I can only imagine , how everything would have went , without Phil and Helen , to oversee the ensuing chaos ..........

Huge poetic licence that the phone in the empty flat would still be connected, for prospective tenants to simply use for their own convenience while they are viewing the place!

That apartment didn't look that much larger than Laura's apartment.

I could be wrong, but I think it has a second bedroom, which would make all the difference.

Lareby also did two of my all-time favourites (and that of millions of others): As Time Goes By and The Good LIfe. All very distinctive shows, and apart from the warmth, subtle humour, unassumingness, puncturing of pompousity and loveable main, sometimes amusingly cantakerous characters, shows you wouldnt necessarily thing the the work of the same person (or team, including Bob Esmonde). And then finishing off with Mulberry, a series about a woman encountering death! So many TV shows and films think they're edgey, but how many are directly (or indirectly) about dealing with impending death? (One of the strengths of both the Harry Potter and Philip Pullman books, imho)

As Time Goes By is one of my favorites. I actually came looking for that and found this, which I'd never ever heard of and I love it!

What we have now is the result of decades of popular culture choosing the least common denominator and continually catering to the preferences of the crudest elements of society. It turns all of society into a gutter.

@@LynxSouth And it is partly responsible for the dumbing down of society, not to mention producing TV shows that really arent worth watching. We are lucky to be able to see TV and films from better days. And occasionally such as Blackadder and Black Books, but such are few and far between.

As Rolf Harris is currently serving a long prison sentence for the serial sex abuse of multiple women and girls, MANY people find him extremely offensive!

Don’t be silly - this episode was made ages before Rolf Harris fell from favour.
