Thank you for your comment on Alipay. Was it very recently that you had problems using it? As Alipay has now made big changes to the way it works for international travellers to make it simpler to register and use their payment app/wallet. Now there is no need to register any personal details or a passport to link a bank cards. Now all you need to do is use your mobile phone number to register on the app and then link your bank card to the app for it to work. It's so much easier now. When making payments, Alipay will directly take/debit the payment directly from your bank card. International users do not need to use the cash wallet option anymore, where the user previously had to charge or add money in advance to Alipay. If the user does want to use it they would have to register a passport, so for simplicity there is no need now unless they need to make larger payments. Here is information from MasterCard www.mastercard.com/news/ap/en/newsroom/press-releases/en/2023/pay-like-a-local-alipay-and-mastercard-offer-international-travelers-another-convenient-way-to-make-cashless-payments-in-china/

I will be in China for over a month. Alipay says I have a limit to foreign bank card, and if I go over I will need Chinese bank card? Any idea what to do??

One thing to keep in mind is the limit that your own bank has on a per day withdrawal. It might be worth speaking to your bank and explaining what you are planning to do. If you have more than one bank card as a 2nd option you can always draw cash from an ATM that supports your card.
