Sorry to hear that man. I've been there too. It was almost 10 years ago when I lost my friend to suicide. My mom called me up and told me a friend of mine had died and that my brother could do a better job of explaining it. I actually thought I knew who it was. I've got a friend who makes lots of bad life choices and I assumed it was her. I was preparing for my brother to tell me she had OD or something. When he told me it Miguel who died instead I hit the floor. He was the last person on earth I would have expected. When I asked him how it happened and my brother said suicide I lost it. Just a few months earlier I had bought him a late birthday gift. We talked for hours and he seemed so happy. He always had seemed happy. I still don't know why it happened. I felt responsible for being so distant. I was going through training at the time and I'm reclusive by nature. I remember feeling like I'd let him down too. He was genuinely one of the nicest guys I've ever met. I remember after completing boot camp I came back to town and I didn't expect go out looking to party but he showed up at my front door the next morning and I can still remember the smile he had when I opened the door. I wasn't exactly popular so it meant a lot to me when he showed up looking for me that day. I knew how much he cared for me, so I did my best to keep that in mind. He would have hated to see how bad his passing rattled me. I committed myself to living a better life I'm sure that would make him happy. I don't know who your friend is but I'm sure he would feel the same way. All we can do is remember the good times and commit ourselves to becoming better. I'm not a frequent viewer but I enjoy your videos, watching your videos I learned sharpening and gain an appreciation for the hobby. Can't cook to save my life but it's been a fun little adventure. So anyway I'll pray for you and your friend's family. I'm sure you will receive a lot of love and support and hopefully your story will help someone else. Take care of yourself man.

So sorry for your loss. I lost my brother in law to depression. He too took his own life. My former wife also suffers from depression. Depression is truly a monster. After we lost my brother in law, who was takin Prozac right at the time when it was controversial, I spoke to two different doctor friends. Both said that if people are so sick that they need such powerful medicine, sometimes, they can't all be saved. It was sobering. Please accept my condolences.

Very sorry to hear about your friend. As many have said here, mental health/depression is a monster that can come out of nowhere and be intensely debilitating. I understand the second thoughts on "could you have said something to make a difference". 11 months ago my brother died of a seizure. It could have been random, however for at last 10 yrs. he was a 'professional' alcoholic' and at that level going cold turkey to sober up, which was his way, can kill you via seizures. He knew this. I tried to help him in many ways, from many resources, including telling him I, mom and dad loved him repeatedly. This was when I had a good idea what was happening with my brother (for years), sounds like you had a far less clear idea of what was going on. It's hard to see what's going on in that situation. My friends said the same thing to me when they heard of my brother's death, and while I still question "Did I?", in the end I know for all intents and purposes, I did the best I could and am not to blame. You did the same, you did what you thought in the situation. Also hindsight is sort of mixed bag. It's easy to look back and go "oh there was this time, and I guess that time as well... shit did I miss something?" I'm not saying you shouldn't look back, but be careful how you deal with it. A few months ago I realized that my brother may have in fact had a handful of non-lethal seizures and not just infrequently, randomly, 'passing out', as he put it. I might be wrong and my brother might have been in denial, but maybe I could have done something different if I had realized sooner? I guess you can "never say never" but realistically it's highly unlikely I could have really changed things and I get the feeling that it's the same is with you. If it might help, a friend that unexpectedly loss her long-term partner, has found writing a daily journal very helpful. I haven't done this but she is supa-smart. Peace. Peter Note to anyone reading this, if someone is a hardcore alcoholic, alcohol is one of the few drugs you don't go cold turkey with. At that stage, the brain can go crazy when it's suddenly removed, including disrupting vital functions.

Hey, I'm very sorry for what happened. It's very courageous of you to talk about it. I don't know much but I can talk about what i've been through in this regard. About 10 years ago I was in a really bad place, I had daily suicidal thoughts, few attemps and was overall extremly alone and unwell. I think nobody was aware of it and honestly they couldn't, that's all part of the extremly complicated process of deep depression. Now i've grown out of it and I can confidently tell you that this loneliness isn't quite about people not beeing there for me but rather me not letting anyone in and I think it was the same for your friend. So, please don't be too hard on yourself, there is nothing you could have done. I think that it's very likely you actually took part in delaying that tragic event. Best, Louis
