There’s probably not many men alive that don’t have a Paloma in their past. Not necessarily walking away from someone they loved, but definitely losing someone they doted after…a love they’ll secretly carry with them the rest of their lives if they never find the right person after her. They tuck it away in the recesses of their heart and unpackage it any time they need to remember how good life can be.
I recently made some changes to the song/title and tied some other meanings into it that are a little more subtle. I’m sure you’ll catch them if you go beyond the surface of the song itself. Just felt like they needed to be made.
Did this after work one day and couldn’t get the sound right. The guitar was projecting way too well for the phone and was drowning everything else out. Worked on it for hours. Still sounds like I’m absolutely banging on the strings, but got it down to a semi-acceptable level. 😂 Anyway, I hope you all like it as well as the video I put together to go with it. I appreciate everyone taking the time to listen. It really means a lot.
I’ve never known anyone named Paloma by the way. My Spanish-speaking friends will get why I chose the name…it’sthe Spanish word for “dove”.

Standing on a front porch in Texas
Thinking about someone I used to love
Said goodbye to my sweetheart, Paloma
Now I'm wishing I could go back and change it all
Paloma lived just north of New Braunfels
She had a face you didn't have to try to love
There was a softness about her
That made me want to try to live a better life
So many sweet memories
Have all but faded from my mind
But one hot afternoon
Will always have my heart in a bind
All alone with her by the lakeshore
We were walking along, hand-in-hand
Dark brown hair lightly touching her shoulders
As she wrote our names together in the sand
Well, that sun was quickly setting on us
String straps barely held up her cotton dress
The most beautiful flowers in the world
Were put to shame as that golden light touched her face
Now, I'm standing on a front porch in Texas
Thinking about the woman I still love
Said goodbye to my sweetheart, Paloma
And now I'm wishing I could go back and change it all
A few miles ahead, I'll cross the Red River
I'm looking back at why on earth I ever left
Makes no sense now; it was because I loved her
But she deserved so much more than I had
Wasn't sure what she ever saw in me
Never seemed to be the man for her love
So I whistled on out of her life,
I'm wind released from the wings of a dove
Now, I'm standing on a front porch in Texas
Thinking about the love that I left behind
An old, rotten door is locked and bolted
The keys to it all were lost in our time
The keys to it all were lost in our time.
