They’re planted out, but small as we’ve had cooler weather the last two weeks. Sugar snap peas are flowering like crazy, so expecting to start snacking soon (they seldom make into the house.. 😅). Hi Jean. It’s so sad but we are so lucky we had 16 years with her. This dahlia never threw out side shoots. It came up this big almost instantly. I’m so sorry you lost all three in such a short space of time. Heartbreaking and the pup was so young too. Devastating 💔 We comfort ourselves by the fact we had almost 16 years with Bess. Not many owners get to share their lives for so long with their dog. We were blessed. The plots are both doing well. I’m so pleased for my sister that she’s having these successes as they are helping to motivate both her and Emily for the remainder of the season. Sorry for your loss Clare, i have had two dogs a Labrador and a rescued crossbred Labrador/Rhodesian Ridgeback who had three/four weeks to live because of her former owners abuse, she was so nervous and so skinny you could see her ribs. (Cutting a long story short about what i did and what happened after) I managed to build up her trust in me and managed to pass six weeks, plus she started to put weight on, and everytime she saw me she was wagging her tail. Obviously in the end she ended up being my dog and she went everywhere with me and from 3/4 weeks left to live, i got a good 10+ years before i had to eventually let her go to sleep, i was a mess that day and a good few weeks afterwards. Even to this day i miss her tons, she was my best friend, i'm going to stop now. Take Care sorry for the essay. Barry (the Wirral)

I sowed Oregon Sugar Pods and transplanted them out. They have gone insane and are over 6ft tall with now tons of huge pods. I also sowed random organic dried peas directly very early ... Here the only borlotto beans I can get are the Franchi brand from Italy ....I believe it's the same borlotti/borlotto. Nice to see your sis's garden. I just harvested out my peas...Tom Thumb. Peas hate our warm weather and we're getting stupid hot now. I'll try again for fall. Literally my best year for peas was when I took multiple old partial packages and mixed them in a trench...thinking maybe some will germinate and I'll get pea shoots for salad........darn if I didn't have about 100% germination and the best year ever of mixed peas. So sorry for your loss.

A further thought…I grow field beans overwinter as a green manure…but I have left them growing on the patch where I shall be planting courgettes and pumpkins this week. I have been picking the pods…if they grow big you need to pod out the beans (not as big as broadbeans) but if they are size of little finger use them whole…cooked with onion, garlic, spices and a can of tomatoes…delish on toast😀😀😀Jinxy

Sorry for your loss. It is so hard. 2 years ago we lost 4 of our beautiful dogs, within months of each other. Our 3 rescue lurchers and our rescued Goldie. All had cancer- devastating. We have since not given any treats containing preservative in as we were concerned maybe that was responsible. A seed seller describes the Borlotto bean as a climbing French bean variety. Hope that helps. I don't think slugs like red veg- they tend to leave alone red kale, red cabbage and red sprouts too. The pink flowered strawberry may be Toscana. I am having a great harvest of mange tout peas. So sweet and delicious. I don't grow 'ordinary' peas and I can not be bothered spending hours shelling them. I don't have the time. I grew mashed potato last year- they are still in store but I forgot to label them on storage and I can't decide which is spaghetti squash and which are mashed potato lol. To date my most favourite is Sweet Dumpling! An easy way to shell broad beans is to twist the pods nd the beans will come out one by one. Take care and God Bless You x
