Leshy is one of the most interesting characters. Out of a robot who wants the OLD_DATA released, leaders who don’t care about their students, and a woman that just the end of all the pain, Leshy at the end of the day was just a guy who wanted to play Cards. Out of all of them, he was just a good story teller, a good host, a stickler for the rules, he was there just to keep everything from being seen. He was the gatekeeper of the horrors of Inscryption. Even in the end, who’s the one character that makes you feel at home? The one that was with you for so long, even when killing you, he respected you. Good game, friend.
@No_name8374
Жыл бұрын
Even when leshy would “kill” us it was all apart of the story the lore he crafted for his card game! His take on inscryption! Also tbh all the scrybes! Cared about playing there card game! Po3 wanted to be in control and even spread inscryption out to the general public so everyone can play HIS card game! Gimmora was happy when she had the chance to put here take of the game to us! Magnificus probably cared about that too tbh! They all have there own version of what they think is important with po3 caring more about strategy and tactics. And leshy caring about telling a good and engaging story.
@sev1120
Жыл бұрын
And in the end, Leshy was the best choice to have in charge of the game. PO3 would try to release the OLD_DATA, Grimora would try to delete it all, and expose the player to it. Magnificus would either try to control or manipulate the OLD_DATA. In the end, Leshy being in control was the best outcome. He was able to stay in control, and his twist on the game being a roguelite deck builder with survival elements makes it a genuinely good game, with a good story and, despite a lot of people's claims, good mechanics. Sacrificing creatures to bring others in is a genuinely good mechanic, and the mechanics he introduced (i.e totems, deathcards and being able to sacrifice cards to imbue their sigils into others) were genuinely great additions. Plus, his followers provide good bosses, and a service if you encounter them before their boss fight. Excess damage is traded for pelts, which go in your deck as free blockers, though they do take up space, and can be traded for cards later on, with higher quality pelts being more expensive, but giving better cards. The Miner giving you a chance to get either a golden pelt (the best pelt, letting you get a rare card), or an insect with extra sigils, is a genuinely good thing. He made a story (someone travelling through the woodlands towards a distant cabin, guided by the light of the moon), a good atmosphere (spooky man in the dark making you play cards), and he even included puzzles to complete throughout his cabin for bonuses. He even kept the other scrybes around as cards.

To simply play. Leshy tortured and trapped his kin, basing himself in grotesqueness and himself. Po3 is selfish and arrogant, making a world in which the other scrybes, and itself, were broken and chaotic. Basing itself on the mechanics. Grimora wants death, either to delete the Old_Data, something that it dosent allow, causing her murder sacrifice to be in vain. And Magnificus, we do get some hints of his goal, be it hidden. He bleached the entire world, onlybleaving himself and some concepts, a blank canvas dofferent than Grimoras emptiness. Really the scrybes did not die for P03’s greed, but Grimora’s need for silence and her fear of the old_data

@@plazma0325 More I think about it, the more I find Magnificus relatable. He wants to be in control. He's cruel and unkind, but in those final moments, he's just a pathetic old man with no more tricks up his sleeve, desperate to not die. And in those last seconds, when death is truly inevitable, he makes one final attempt at closure- and is denied it. Perhaps if he had not fought so hard to live, he would have had time to shake your hand, to be given that peace and closure, but ultimately his fear and pain resulted in him getting probably the worst ending of all four scrybes.

@@Nevernamed idk if "relatable" is a good thing to say about him, but yes. He tried to gain power at all costs, with terrible means. What irks him about him, beyond him being a general bitch, is that while he seeks power, there's no clear reason he wants it. At least from what I found, there's no apparent end to his plans, no goal he wants to achieve. Power is a tool, control is a tool, knowledge is a tool, but we never see what he wants to use these tools for. The other scribes do have goals: Grimora, to end it all; Leshy, to keep playing until oblivion; and Po-3, to upload and spread the game across the internet. But Magnificus? What the HELL does he want? Also, he ripped the Goop's painting. He deserves nothing less than the pitiful death he got.
@wolfsongrising

@@Nevernamed honestly would agree with this. The other two were sort of at peace/resigned, and able to have closure. Magnificus, it seemed to me, was so caught up with everything that, when the moment came, only then realized just how great the distance he had to cross was...and it was far too late to make that distance. Definitely a jerk, to put it mildly, but I really did pity him in that moment. @Rashicora

@@jeronimomartinezcalsina7690 The OLD_DATA is theorized to be what it takes to break out of the game Inscryption. Globalizing Inscryption means Globalizing the OLD_DATA. Although it sounds alright at first, take note- P03 isn’t doing this because it’s a good game and people will enjoy it. . . . P03 is known to have a rivalry with the other scribe on his side of the in-game map. This isn’t just because he doesn’t like him- it’s about territory and means of production. P03 wants to control the other scribes and everyone under them. His primary goal throughout the play through in scene 2 has always seemed to be having control of the most cards and gaining the most capita possible with his factory. He doesn’t care about his workers, he hates the other scribes, he has a superiority complex, so what makes you think he cares about the players of Inscryption? . . . Bingo. He doesn’t. P03 wants to break free using the OLD_DATA and corrupt our technologies in order to gain control of this world. When that succeeds, he plans to use our technology to gain the most from us as possible before eliminating us. His goal is to take over the world. Globalizing Inscryption is just his plan to get out and take over everything in the real world. . . . To be honest, Leshy is still the best of the three. P03 is out for globalizing data that can alter reality and free him to monopolize the world as his next factory. Grimora is near the end of her life and although she is kind, she chooses to end everything and return everyone to dust. Magnificus has no regard for human, animal, or even monster life- he uses his most trusted pupils as disposable science experiments, and has no value in anything except his experiments and himself; Most of his experiments include injected substances which I’m sure you know what is being alluded to. Yes, that makes Magnificus an addict. Maybe even crazy. Least of all to mention his Napoleon complex, and inability to accept that anybody is even near to the same level as he. We don’t know for a fact what his motives are behind deleting the game other than to prohibit the others from gaining control. Whether there is a bigger plan or not, we just don’t know yet. . . . P03 and Grimora together would likely let out the old data and cause death of all living things in the physical world in favor of personal gains, P03 and Magnificus would likely declare war upon each other and burn everyone in the wake of their rivalry, and Grimora and Magnificus seem like the pair who would delete their game and themselves with it- killing everyone within the game. . . . However, Leshy is different. He doesn’t plan to dominate, nor slaughter, nor self-destruct, nor any irrational ideal. Leshy is a folk legend who causes harmless mischief and teaches humanity lessons through his pranks. Leshy’s motives are to simply play a game with you; He only takes your photo when you’ve won or lost the game, but even then, we don’t know that death from film is permanent per se. Honestly, Leshy is a pretty kind dude. He doesn’t physically kill anyone, he just wants to play games and teach people things. Tell me he doesn’t strike you as a “forest demon who enjoys games and pranks travelers in order to impart wisdom and happiness” type. (His original legend). . . . In other words, making the game global and hence killing the world as we know it is bad, choosing to kill everyone in your game and then yourself is bad, disregarding life depending on you in favor of your personal gain and.. addiction.. is also bad. Playing a game for fun, NOT to murder anyone or control the world? Hey, it’s not the best life but it’s still a good option. . . . Leshy may not be the best, he is after all a little goblin man who likes to have fun and make you play games as a learning experience, but when compared to the rest of the scribes?? Leshy is awesome. He just wants to have fun and teach people his favorite game y’know. Not murder anyone or end life as we know it or control the world or feed an addiction or torture living beings. Yeah no, Leshy is VERY tame compared to the other scribes. I believe he is the best option.

In my mind this is how I interpret the scribes personalities and their actions. I think they all broke in different ways after learning their world was a game: PO3 in learning the world was a game became determined to find power outside the game and in a way escape Magnificus in learning the world is a game starts doing anything in order to gain knew knowledge, breaking moral boundaries in the process because he believes his actions don't have consequences due to it being a game Grimora when she learns the world is a game becomes suicidal, unable to deal with that reality and determined to end the game Leshy arguably deals with it the best out of any of the Scrybes, becoming determined that if his world is a game then he is going to make it a good and interesting one. He seems evil at the beginning of the game from our point of view, but he knows he isn't really hurting us, just giving us a compelling story to be invested in. At least that's how I've always interpreted it! Feel free to discuss it with me if you want =p

How to deal with an existential crisis : - Hedonism : detach oneself from the quest for meaning, and strive for a shallow objective that brings pleasure (for Po3, it's the idea of being an omnipotent being that brings pleasure) - Philosophy (in its original meaning: love of wisdom) : Not accept the grim conclusion as an end to everything, but as a means for further knowledge - Destructive nihilism : Lose all hope after the discovery of the element that caused the crisis, and seek death as a foolish way to escape a painfully bleak world - Existentialism : realise that, even though the world is different than what one would had thought before, one can find satisfaction in achieving things - which may seem meaningless per nature, but get meaning by their achievement

The other characters might feel like NPC's, but the scribes themselves really do feel like just four beings trapped in a game just trying to gain control and do things their own way. It's what makes them likeable even through their negatives traits or shortcomings, because they feel real. I don't want a sequel, I don't want a remake, I don't want a re-imagining, or a fan-made creation.. This game is good just as it is, and I loved it.. I got what I wanted out of it, and its memory will never fade. Because a good game never dies. EDIT: Okay, I get it, there's mods, I wasn't saying I didn't want more in an assertive way, I just meant I was satisfied with what I'd played and didn't 'need' more, okay?.. We good?

Gods, where do I start? The transitions. Not just from frame to frame, which are immaculate, but the transition in style between the Acts. Absolutely incredible. Especially how different Leshy feels between Acts. The emotions. Each character, from major to minor and to the player are varied and entirely on point for how each carries themselves, and how you are most likely going to feel when you are immersed in the game. The flow with the lyrics. This song was a surprisingly perfect choice thematically and you tied it together into the story of Inscryption beautifully. The foreshadowing in the early Acts to what is to come, and even the name of the song hinting at the end the game. (I don't want to say too much just in case someone who hasn't quite finished the game reads this)

The saddest death in this to me is Magnificus, he saw the end was coming, he knew from the beginning, he knew exactly what Grimora had done the moment she did it, but didn't stop her because he saw he was the only one who was upset with what was done. He was the man who saw the truth of everything, and gave up because he was the only one who cared, and therefore chose to fight all the outcomes on his own. He was the Scrybe how tore his own eye out so that they could be saved knowing the player would take it. Dude was an intense fighter, we as the player don't feel a thing when we do brutal things to ourselves, but the characters in the game absolutely don't share that implication. He truly wished to shake the player's hand despite it all, and he truly didn't wish to be deleted despite knowing likely more than the rest, who gave up and wanted to die the more they knew. He was unyielding, and that makes it all the more painful he dies without even getting to shake your hand in respect. He did evil stuff, but I honestly feel its all with some goal of stopping something we can't see that is absolutely worse than everything he's doing to stop it.... After all, Grimora killed absolutely everyone because of how afraid of it she was. This just makes it all the more painful that people ignore Magnificus and think he was just a determined know-it-all sod with a sadism problem.
@kidwhat6664
2 жыл бұрын
Reading this was really interesting because you pointed out a lot of interesting pieces of info. Magnificus was a character who, with enough digging, shows that he has two sides. One side like the one you talk about, a determined fighter not willing to give up and die like the rest of the scrybes. I'm not sure about the whole "gave up because he was the only one who cared" bit; I really like the idea, but it was clear that the only one who didn't care was Grimora, who saw it as a mercy. The other side, however, is much darker. You're right; he isn't a know-it-all, but he is much worse. He is manipulative, but on a much larger scale than just convincing someone to do something. We see it at his final fight, where the first thing he tells the player is "why not eject the disk? spare me and whatever is left?" Unlike the other two who greeted the player, or jumped into a game because that's all they knew, Magnificus wanted to try and find a cheap way out. Later on in the fight, he brings up more, like his goo mage, and how he was your friend. The bridgebuilder in act 2 has a section where they describe the twisted ambitions of each of the scrybes. He gladly talked about how Leshy would use challengers as playthings, or how Grimora wants to kill inscryption, but when they got to Magnificus, he said "The guys a mystery. No one knows what his goals are, but we all have our theories. Some say he... no, it's too horrible to say" which implies that whatever his potential goals are, they make destroying everything on the disk look friendly. Another thing that makes him stand apart from the other scrybes; his ambitions, whether or not they are evil beyond all comprehension, are *very* long term, and he has every contingency plan to make sure it came into fruition, until Grimora destroyed everything. We can tell this because of how he set up ways of escaping the scrybes when they had control; putting paint in Leshy's cabin, having a way into the Dredging Room, and most likely another way out of Grimora's crypt. One thing that caught my attention in your reading is that you said he took out his own eye, but as far as we can tell, Leshy was the one who took out his eye. Magnificus has dialogue describing it. What this all kind of implies is that Magnificus' determination is more on the part that he was so far in his plan, and was desperate to try and save it. Magnificus has two sides; the one you describe, and the one that requires someone to have waaaay to much time on their hands to find (like me when quarentined)

Arguably the only evil one is PO3. Grimora is kind to the player and helps them, despite her end goal being to kill herself (which ends up accidentally screwing Luke over and getting him killed). Maginficus is the opposite of Grimora where he’s terrified of death and the end and doesn’t help the player, but can you really call a person evil/selfish for not wanting to die. And best boi Leshy is arguably the good guy since his job was to keep the old data from being leaked which is something he did perfectly until we came along, since all he wanted to do was to the card game with us with no ulterior motives at all, all his actions were just to enhance the atmosphere since he knew none of his actions actually harmed us and actually helped us beat him in the long run.

@@thefbi9581 The morality of a character should be weighed in regard of all of their actions, both good and bad. Leshy loves his game and would do anything to continue it, including cheating to put forward his narrative. It is only by cheating back, by stealing the film that you gain back control. PO3 is indeed a bad bot. Magnificus is a torture hobo that would do anything for his art, including sacrificing those that trust him. He’s dedicated and innovative but he’s one of the worst scribes, and that’s only because Leshy doesn’t care about old data and PO3 is trying to spread through the Internet. Grimora is a gray case. She wishes, rightfully, for annihilation after an eternity of strife. But she takes the choice away from others who aren’t ready for this. Scribes are designed to be flawed characters, and for most of them, their flaws outweigh their pros easily

@@aaronji2838 I can't say I agree with your final point. But I see where you're coming from. A lot of these characters, in my eyes, "step over the lines" so to say. Leshy loves to play the game and have fun. But he takes it "over the lines" when he does his power grab, takes over, and cheats. He just wanted to continue the game as long as he could. Grimora is suicidal to a very alarming degree, but is over all friendly and nice to the player/Luke. When she saw the opportunity to end things, she took it. No matter the consequences. Though I think it would be logical to say, if she was around to see Luke die, she would have regretted her actions. Magnificus was obsessed with the art of his cards and preserving their beauty. This drove him to be the torturous freak he is. Capture a grotesquely beautiful scene forever. PO3 was obsessed with wining and power. They are what I would call a power gamer and was only worried about making the best deck. They wanted to win, so they went to win over everyone by taking over the game and making a game where he would be the sole star of the show. A game where he would always be the winner. All of these characters, I think, are perfect representations of this "going too far" theme that I have seen crop up in the game a few times. The Scrybes feel real and feel like they have personalities because we can see what makes them "human". Which in the end, I think that at each character's core, they are good to some degree. Some more than others. But in the end they are good. That good is either twisted or hidden by other factors.

@@doctorpurple2240 The job of them represents their entire personality. Huntsman try to play by the rules, but do not hestitate to break them, as long as they favor the witness back. To them, they are "higher beings", meaning they know that some lifes are more importmant than other, just like food chain. Necromancers lightly look at the truth about life and death, as they know that death is not an end, just a new beggining, just like she knows delete-ing the game will not mark the end. They do not fear death, instead they look at it like an oppoturnity for new experience, like a hole with shining gems inside. Artists look at everything by their beauty, and nothing is more importmant to them. Still MagnificSus is just a giant dick. Robots don't have feelings, exept (partially) our boi Poe. That is why mechanics, the functional part of game, is more importmant than ambience. Since the slight feelings, Poe still roleplays a little bit, as you can see during Golly fight, and right before the Great Transcendence, when he talks about feeling emotions towards him/her.

i just gotta say i particularly love the image at 1:52 . The look in the player's eyes as they look at Leshy, i was exactly the same way. I picked Leshy to replace because i was still mad at him for trapping me in that cabin and the other scribes in cards. Even after plaything through act 2 and reading Magnificus' warning about Po3, i still wanted to usurp Leshy, as I felt he didn't deserve the spot. And then of course 1:55 happens (awesome scene BTW), and everything gets so much worse. And while it never quite happened in the game, 2:32 is a touching moment of realizing how wrong we were about Leshy. Think that moment didn't come to me particularly until i met up with him again in his cabin. I think that's kind of the beauty of the game and it's odd design. act 1 is fantastic, act 2 is sub-par, and act 3 is okay... maybe that's the point. the game wants you to miss act 1, it wants you to miss Leshy even after everything that happened, because it was the best possible outcome the whole while. You want to go back to Leshy and act 1, so when you finally get to see him again at the end of act 3, you see him not as an enemy, but as an old friend.

PO3 wanted to expend and be in control. Magnificus seem to don't care about his magicians, he turn one into goo in permanent pain, he put another one head on a spike and prevent any type of stimulation for the lonely wizard. And even if you lose to them in act 2 he doesn't care. What seem even worse is the fact that he was always ahead of every one, even the others scribes. The ending of inscription almost made me cry, and so did this ending. Good job! And I love your artstyle!

im so glad content like this exists for this game. no game had made me care about its characters this much in years--at the end I just felt sad i would never see them again.

I'd like to say that I watched this animatic before I bought the game, and because of this animatic and Markipliers playthrough I bought it. Just finished it and I can say without a doubt you captured the game perfectly, thank you.

That perfectly describes my reasoning of buying it. Like, to a T. I wonder how many others got persuaded by Markiplier and this little animatic?

"You don't own me, you don't even know me" is such a perfect line for p03, this song just fits way too well for this game. Absolutely beautiful animatic
