I had the same issue! I have a similar rod the Giant Killing Micro Jig Rod. In the US everything is fast reels for bass fishing. I went on a JDM site and got the 4000 size Shimano Miravel with 4.7 gear ratio and 75 cm retrieve. They have a 3 versions of the 2500 size for Miravel and one of them has 73 cm retrieve. I had to buy a new handle too

It's not just in the US, majority of the reels available now are just fast....I saw the Miravel, but...I didn't like the Ci4 body...probably me just being paranoid. Hope the reel works out for you! So far, I quite like this one. Tight lines!!!!!

Update: 5.8 gear ratio and even lighter for inshore jigging I been using now is the Daiwa Airity. 150g and it's just awesome. It's WAYY more expensive but really love the weight savings for all day jigging. I love the shallow spool too. I updated the handle to Titanium with ceramic bearings, and ceramic bearings for the spool bearing. Also changed the felt to Carbontex washer and I can and have landed everything inshore. 😊

Have you considered the option to not fill the spool completely ? Let's say a spool can contain 300m PE1, if you put 150m of PE1 without backing the retrieve will be way slower because of the radius of the spool.
@TheFishingKit

And what are you going to do with the drag? The less line you put the more drag you will have....
@bofijo6944
9 ай бұрын
Yes and no... Yes, if you have a full spool, set the drag and then fish on deep water, the drag will be stronger when you're at the bottom I agree with you But if you set the drag on a half spool, the issues will not be different than with a full spool right ? I'm just thinking and trying to think about possibilities, maybe I can be wrong ! @@TheFishingKit

I guess you could do it the way you are saying - I mean, I am sure people have done it in one shape or form, would it catch fish? sure...no doubt...but using a big reel like a 4000 and under spooling it and using a rod that's designed for something like a 2500/3000 would make your combo butt heavy, if you don't mind that, then great - end of story - do it. the drag will be different between a say 4000 sized reel and a 2500, some like Twinpower will have a 4000 reel with an 11kg drag while 2500 has 4kg and another model at 9kg. If do you it like mine that I am using 4lb braid - which reel do you think will have a better shot at keeping the line in one piece?
@bofijo6944

For sure the 2500 is a better choice ! I was just wondering if the other solution worked, which seems to be the case but not optimum. I've just bought a Tenryu HLJ641S-FUL and I think I'll buy a Caldia 2500 too, it'll feat perfectly. I have 150m left of YGK Super Jigman Pe 0.8 that I'm gonna spool. 0.6 woud've been perfect tho. Thank you for your channel, it's a really a source of useful informations !

Hi! I'm a newbie to super light jigging. Looking at Shimano Miravel C3000, do you think that is a good option for SLJ? :) Thank you so much in advance! Btw, saw that it's rated at 73cm (~30 inches) per crank, I think.

It's not like you can't catch fish with higher retrieve speeds - you can. It's just that you get in water time with slower retrieve reels.

@@YzKnox two different things. Shore jigging requires a faster reel because A.) you cast from shore B.) you need to get as much slack off your line as possible and C.) your presentation is diagonal not vertical - there is a difference. If you are jigging on a boat, low gear, if you are fishing from shore a fast reel will be easier to use.

@@TheFishingKit i truly appreciate you for all the explanations you the best sir , did you think 3000-4000 daiwa reels with 20lbs line will be okay for yellow tails occasionally? Will that be too small for those fish ?
@TheFishingKit

@@YzKnox depends on how big the yellowtails are. but yea, on the small side. if you are on a private boat, you have more chances to mess around with lighter gear.

In one of your videos you mentioned that a spinning set up pauses a fast jig more horizontally in the water column when it is being retrieved compared to an overhead reel? Could you clarify?
@TheFishingKit
Жыл бұрын
You can't continuously pump a spin outfit successively on a spinning reel, there is always a pause on the apex of the jigging motion - this is not present on overhead setups. It's the same with gaining line with load (like with a heavy weight at the end) with spinning reels, you can not wind in line unless you pump the rod.
@joseph1374sewntotal

It's been so long since I've used a spinning set up and almost refuse to buy one after using baitcasters for years. I think I can visualize what you're saying about when someone is using a spinning set up for speed jigging. I appreciate the reply.

I am using an excense 3000 and a new miravel 2500s for microjigging. 10g and 15g jigs. In your opinion, what am I losing out with the faster retrieve and how does this translate to how I feel on the jig and retrieve. Trying to understand if I have a problem before I try to fix it.

among a few 3000 and 2500 size reels, I have a sustain 2500hg I used a lot before this. I caught on that reel with no issues.But I didn't really use it a lot because I had overheads that were much much slower and I caught way more on those...I have only used this once for now, but I am confident it will be a very good addition to the arsenal.

Just dont reel when you jig, only need to lift and drop the rod tip. As long as the boat is moving, you are jigging the strike zone the whole time.
@TheFishingKit
Жыл бұрын
@@kizzjd9578 you can do that, but you are also excluding techniques that you can use to get strikes. What happens if it doesn't work? the fish are not biting? time to go home?

@@TheFishingKit in shallow water you only need to lift the rod. In deeper water you can do both.

@@kizzjd9578 like I said, if you do that and it doesn't work, what do you do? leave? There are no rules and you can't just say one thing works. What you can do in the deep, you can do in the shallower water, but you might need different gear - this is the point of the video.

Because the rod i use it with is designed with the 2500/3000 size as the reel size that balances with it. Could be a 3000 sized reel as well, just that i chose the smaller reel for my use.
