Great route, thanks for sharing!! In my 'mind map' of doing this journey before Wandsworth Bridge was always a bit unpleasant (especially in the return direction) but looks better today with the wider temporary barrier. Also that under-bridge tunnel to Bishops Park is really cool and completely new knowledge for me! Previously would have gone onto the high st and Fulham Palace Rd which is pretty full on experience. Great channel, thanks for making these 🚲

Thanks for another great vid. I think I made the same comment last time you were here: at the end of Crisp Rd I turn R away from the river and weave through to the crossing under the flyover. It's a good point too about it potentially becoming a bit of a mess if different boroughs all start implementing their own special restrictions. I don't know what Google Maps will make of it for instance. Certainly in Hackney they seem to start sending cars through the filters if they see enough drivers (or at least, their phones) travelling through them. Will a $1tn tech heavyweight write special code to account for the peculiarities of one London borough? I doubt it.
@Londoncycleroutes
Жыл бұрын
@@liamness yeah looking at how Google Maps has treated e.g. Imperial Road in south Fulham streets east (which has been in for a while now), the filter simply isn't marked in any way in the map. It'll route you through there, defaulting to it as the top option, with only a little note saying 'may be closed at certain times or on certain days' (which isn't even accurate)

I just replied to another comment how Bromley (and bexley) feel like they are so much behind much of London in terms of cycling friendliness. I live in Greenwich and even though it’s very far from perfect it’s so much better than Bromley. such a shame as I like to cycle that way as it has lanes leading out to the countryside it has so much potential.
@Londoncycleroutes

@@a1white yeah Greenwich should get some praise for being one of the better outer London boroughs. they have decent plans as well, I think they're going to try LTNs again, support extending C4 to Woolwich, and want to redo Greenwich town centre with protected lanes. as you say, not perfect, but better than many neighbours

As you went over Wandsworth Bridge I believe the signs that were knocked over were telling you the pavement cycle lane is closed (and is for pedestrians) - you're meant to be on the road bit that's been separated from the main carriageway, for the duration of the works
@Londoncycleroutes
Жыл бұрын
I think that was the case earlier in the works but I believe it was finished by the time I filmed this. If you look closely it was just barriers that had fallen over rather than any sign being among them (unless the sign has been blown a long way away I suppose). I think that cycle track was closed while the pavement was barriered off, but the pavement is back open now.
@Londoncycleroutes
Жыл бұрын
though one reason to think you're supposed to cycle in the roadway is that the on pavement cycle lanes have had their cycle symbols painted over in black... though this would be quite subtle...
@ciaranmcnulty5713

fair enough I've not been that way for a few weeks - odd if it's the pedestrians who're meant to be either side of the lane though!

@London cycle routes, Thanks for your great delivery 😊 . i continue my training watching your video for my next travel to London in June 23 😉 do you have any tip for best day of a week or hour to cycle quietly ?
@Londoncycleroutes
Жыл бұрын
Good question! During the long summer days, Sunday evenings are probably the quietest time of the week - I often recommend people try out their routes to work around this time. But generally, if you avoid ‘rush hour’ - 8am-10am on weekday mornings and about 4pm-6pm weekday evenings, it should be quiet mostly. Most of the routes on this channel I try to design so they are quiet even at busy times though! Let me know if you have any more questions!

Trade off between so so LTNs boroughwide or gold standard LTNs in a few places (?) Next step would probably be local resident exemption for only your area, similar to how CPZs work but let’s see…
@Londoncycleroutes
Жыл бұрын
Yes that’s true they could narrow the resident exemption as a sort of mid step maybe. I think one issue I have is im not sure politically they couldn’t do full LTNs- opposition hasn’t made a dent electorally in places where there’s been a lot of noise
@liamness
Жыл бұрын
Yeah if you were allowed to go through a filter if it's literally at the end of your street, fair enough, but exemptions from all filters is going to encourage driving short trips that could be walked or cycled. Given there won't be through traffic from other boroughs on these back streets any more, why wouldn't you use them as a cut through?
@pfscpublic

3:15 there are a couple of ramps down on either side of the roundabout that lets cyclists diagonally traverse the roundabout underground and pop up a ramp on the south west corner of the Wandsworth Bridge at 3:54 - I always use this direct route to avoid the always busy (and dangerous) surface roundabout & its Toucans. This route under the roundabout is where a famous violent Clockwork Orange scene was filmed
@Londoncycleroutes
Жыл бұрын
Ah yes I thought about various approaches to using the roundabout… it actually looked like one of the exits was closed from the water main leak? So I played it safe. But if I was doing a route from Wandsworth town centre direction I think under would definitely be better
