Nice video! Editor needs a high five 😂 Don't be fooled, tip ties shockload the system as well. Its also imporant to consider force developement and application. Its easy to develope very high forces that can load the tree(s) in very unfavorable ways with span rigging.

I am especially fond of span rigging when I need to place my rigging point further away from the tree that I am working. Or if I have a couple other trees nearby the rotten one that I am in.

One way of slowing the piece being rigged is using speedline straps if you already have them versus the pulley. Taking into account of course the weight of said pieces... Either way, this is a good introduction to this technique.

Giving just enough information about a very useful, but complicated technique is not a good idea. You should have prefaced this video & ended it with direction to reliable resources for proper training. At a minimum, do it as a series of videos. 😢

While you are correct about this being an advanced technique, this video is meant to be a quick basic intro to the technique and at the least, introduce a new rigging option. Even if we did we a series, there are many variables that can dictate how this technique will play. For example tree species, condition of the tree, equipment being used if any, whether a shock will be introduced or not, proper rope handling, etc. We will try to cover more on the subject at a later date.

@@BartlettArboristSupply I agree with you about the technique. Your description of how complicated, with many variables involved is spot on. Unfortunately, your description of it being a “basic intro” is not stated or eluded to in the video. In no way do I want to dissuade you from doing videos on this or any other subject about tree gear & techniques to use it. This video just fell short. I look forward to your future videos on the subject.

@@BartlettArboristSupply Excellent video, but one thing that I would have mentioned is that with span rigging, you are now introducing a Force Multiplication with rope angles that can easily exceed your WLL/SWL or even more deadly, a vector point that can easily snap off your anchor point tree/s. This is NOT a technique for the new or average rigger. They need to understand basic tree physics first.
