This a great arrival guide for first timers into Taiwan. I would add if you are a multi national, and you go to Taiwan again, always use the same Passport. The first time I went to Taipei, I used my BNO Passport from Macau and years later I went again and used my Canadian Passport. BIG MISTAKE. As I was going through customs, the agent gave me a weird look and asked me if I had used another passport in the past. I said I did and she kindly explained to me that isn't allowed. I apologized and took out my BNO Passport but it was too late. A border agent came over and took me off to the far right side for questioning. They left me alone for 30 minutes in a fenced off area and came back and told me to only use the same passport and that they have the right to refuse my entry into the country.

That's a good video that would be really useful for first-time visitors. I don't disagree with any of it but would add a few things - 1. Taiwan has recently expanded use of the e-gate arrival system beyond Taiwanese and foreign residents to a handful of countries with reciprocal agreements (United States, South Korea, Australia, Italy, Germany, Singapore). Using this will speed up Immigration and Passport Control, which can get busy during summer months. 2. Taxi should only be $1,000 from the airport, not $1,500. Many companies have a set fair into the city though, like you said, the MRT is a far better (and easier?) deal. 3. If you're going to be staying for more than ~10 days and plan to use public transport a lot, getting the $1,200 T-Pass instead of adding money to your yoyo card is a better deal. Unlimited public transport in northern Taiwan. You could still add cash to your card for use in convenience stores, etc.

Great video. Regarding the Airport MRT, make sure you take the express train and not the local if you’re traveling to Taipei Main Station or one of the other main hubs on the line. You’ll save time and have a more comfortable seat (the local trains are more like a standard subway car).

Note: If your phone does not take a physical SIM - you will need to get an e-SIM. The last time I was in TPE I had to bypass that central kiosk and go all the way to the left - to the end of the terminal - to the Chunghwa Telecom booth. They have an e-SIM option. EXCELLENT video!

Welcome back to Taiwan, the first stage of the custom you mentioned is more for the swine fever, which they scan your carry on to prevent meat products from coming into the country, but the do give you a heads up to go through the red channels in the secondary as you mentioned, this process is not mandatory for all the countries, only if you are from or transit through the area declared as swine fever counties.

Thank you so much for this video. I just came back from a weeklong trip to Taiwan, and this covered so many things that made my first jet-lagged hour manageable. Now I have to look forward to going through all my receipts from my trip ;)

I won on one of my receipts! Just 200 TWD, and I won't be back in time to redeem - but an extra-fun souvenir since it was on my first bubble tea purchase in Ximending.

Great guide, really helpful. I disagree in general on emergency cash. Exchange rates are robbery ahead of time and I have access to fee free int'l ATM withdrawals so tend to load up after I'm through. Also, eSIM's need a mention here as they are now superior to physical SIM's in Taiwan for value. The ability to be connected on landing and have access to my main phone number for 2FA/emergencies is a game changer :)
