I just stood while watching this entire video you’ve created! I appreciate it. It took me back to the 90s and early 2000s when I had the absolute pleasure to ride this legendary attraction a myriad of times. Too bad my wife won’t be able to ride this as she was sad that it got closed permanently. This was memory lane for me. Jaws was the reason why up until my age 34 I am still terrified of the deep ocean😊

I vividly remember riding the JAWS ride in Florida in '97 I was 6 years old and my older brother was sat on the end of the row right next to where JAWS comes up out the water on the left side of the boat. I still remember that ride fondly and being so close to the 'shark' to this day.

I had no idea the original version had the skippers controlling the boat's movement (or speed at least?)...no wonder they had issues. I worked at the Jaws boardwalk games in 1995, fond memories of the area and the skippers.
@StorybookAmusement
3 ай бұрын
Yep! Just the speed from my understanding. I've read that the 1.0 boats were "free floating" and followed a tight trough instead of a proper track. I personally don't see how that would've been possible with the turntable section plus a few controlled bumps (like in the final scene). But some people who worked on the engineering side mentioned how the human error element (speed) made the turntable tricky. I wish there were more videos; I'd love to see it misaligned. But those must've been good times! Good soundtrack in that area.

Excelent video man! I love to watch those YT documentaries about theme park attractions and your channel always delivers quality content. About Jaws itself, I'm a simple brazilian who has traveled to Florida only once in 2011, most specifically December... I had no single clue that attraction was less than 1 month from closing forever, which makes me even more grateful for having been able to ride it. I remember seeing all the effects working and the skipper was awesome in his perfomance. I'll be forever grateful for that opportunity and the memories I have of that single 5-minute ride that scared the hell outta me 13 years ago 😂 Btw I swear I could feel the flames' heat from here while you were talking about them on the video lol Greetings from Brazil!

I loved the ride all the way to it's closing. I remember after me and my dad would ride we'd get some ice cream and watch the boat come into port at the end seeing the cheers of "surviving" the ride. There was an experience during HHN X (2000) called Bloody Waters, which was what I put in the video. Basically, it was the ride per usual with a scene with Jack the Clown in the boathouse. halloweenhorrornights.fandom.com/wiki/Bloody_Waters Shark in the Dark was basically the ride during HHN. Nothing too different other than just a hyped up (probably tipsy) crowd and a longer leash for skippers to go off script. I read an interview from a skipper where a drunk guy during HHN hopped off the boat and swam to the central island. Yuck.

OK - maybe it's just me but - tech problems design faults aside - didn't the sharks look better/more realistic in the original version ?! Something more convincing about them. I also like how they showed both the tale and the dorsal fin as the shark glided through the water, as you see when a real one crests the surface. Meh, a great ride regardless.
@StorybookAmusement

You're absolutely right! That was a huge compromise with the update. The new sharks were a lot stiffer. That original boathouse shark is amazing. I didn't mention that the fin animatronics on the second version of the ride had swaying tails, but that motion was disabled after issues of the fixtures derailing off the track.
