Thank you very much!! He spawned a rival of interest in America’s railroads & a flurry of Amtrak travel, foregoing airplanes, us included. Wouldn’t have had the courage without him. Ride on, Shoestring Mark, and God bless

None of us can say Mark "Hobo Shoestring's" passing away is a huge surprise considering the outlaw dangerous lifestyle he actually lived instead of just told stories about such living. To me it seemed, after watching his vids on and off for about 5 years now, it seemed as if Mark was really coming into his own...almost seemed and felt as if he acknowledged he had finally arrived at the "sweet spot" of ehat he considered his peak lifestyle. Am i wrong about this or did others feel similar that it was if Mark had really found his stride in life and could not have been much happier...? Each new episode was old yet exciting...new and enticing. I was sucked in by the aura of trains as a lifestyle early on whille watching Stobe the Hobo back in 2016-2017 era. Mark's "Shoestring" vids popped up left and right while watching Stobe and it only took one episode for me to be hooked. There was just something about Mark's vids that i just couldn't put my finger on, yet drew me in. As subscriber count grew, his humility followed along at an equal pace. Just the first few months of this year Mark had really risen to the challenge of this youtube video documentation of his actual, legitimately true and accurate lifestyle. Then in an instant the whole train came to a screeching halt. The news spread fast of his passing and now those beloved videos are no more. Lets all thank GOD for the library of classic showcases of that free man's life, both on the rails and on solid ground too. He took each of us in as if he knew each and every one of us for our whole lives and just talked our ears off, bombarded by a lifetime of very interesting knowledge he came about during those years he wandered the country. What an honor it has been Mark. Thank you for taking us along on your journey. May GOD rest your soul, friend.

I remember that story and alhough the Trooper wasn't able to come back for him a trapper let him use his cabin and he showed us his pelts which were on display and what it was like throughout the cabin. And how he was treated with full respect as a traveler on foot in Alaska.

When it is so cold the people in Alaska are susposed to pick up other people. Neither are to harm one another or face pentalitiies. I drove the alcam highway years ago and this is what they told me. An alaska native helped out shoe string when it was cold there. I actaully talked to Hobo Shoestring while he was in alaska when it was very cold. I miss Mark and am sad over his sudden passing away. I got to learn a lot of stuff just by watching the videos. I wrote to Mark too and he sent me a tag for Christmas. The native gave Mark some firewood and let him stay in his shop. Usually the people in Alaska will help other when it is cold outside. They probably don't have to do this yet I belive it is doing the next right thing. I would not want someone to leave me out on the road when it is cold in Alaska.

I watched videos Shoestring posted for the last 3 yrs. He would tell stories about his adventures of riding trains all across the US. Sometimes he would video himself as he hobo'd from one place to the other. I remember his trip by train to Alaska. He went fishing with his parents . I forget where they were from but he visited them on one trip. He's always been a good person. I seen him on the river last year He hadn't been real well . He had been going to his doctor's. He was unique the kind of person you never forget. He has Shoestring wrote on everything everywhere in places all along the tracks across the United States. RIPSHOESTRING

@warren-g I'm not certain. I just know he was found dead at lake. It hasn't came out yet the cause of death. Could be drowning, some kind of organ failure due to his health conditions, heart attack.....
