I love this movie, watch it everytime it is on. James Garner was that rarity a good comic actor and a good dramatic actor.

I love the way Bruce Dern holds out his hands to be cuffed and drops his head like a pouting little boy. Wonderful bit of acting.

Around this same time when James Garner and Bruce Dern made this movie "Support your Local Sheriff" Bruce Dern also made Hang Em High with Clint Eastwood.

I saw an interview where Bruce said he had the most fun doing this movie. He loved working with Garner and director Burt Kennedy.

and then a couple years after this movie he made The Cowboys with John Wayne and for a while he became the most hated man in America
I still never recognize him, then again, I only remember him from Django Unchained, Nebraska, and The Hateful Eight.

Dern usually played the villain, but his scariest role was "longhair" in "The Cowboys". I saw that on TV at the age of 6 and he gave me nightmares. Plus he's maybe the only onscreen character to kill the Duke!

Love this movie as well as “Support Your Local Gunfighter”. Maybe the two best comedy westerns ever. James Garner was a great actor, men like him can’t be replaced.
