Terry Fox was a Canadian athlete and cancer research activist who in 1980, with one leg having been amputated due to cancer, embarked on an east to west cross-Canada marathon to raise money and awareness for cancer research.
On the morning of April 12, 1980 he collected a jar of Atlantic seawater at the Newfoundland coast, which he intended to empty into the Pacific at the end of his marathon. However, the spread of his cancer forced him to end his marathon just east of my hometown, Thunder Bay, after 143 days.
I wrote this music around 2005 to pitch for a biographical film that was being produced at the time. This abridged version was performed and recorded in 2009.
