Awesome. I love yard sale and junk shop radio gold. I picked up a EF Johnson messenger with the telephone handset on my holidays a couple weeks ago for $10. It makes you feel sophisticated instead of like a dirty trucker on the band😄

Thank you for sharing your Cool find. I was going through my deceased father-in-law's stash and found a JC Penney 6204. I'm hoping it still works so I can put it in my 69 Chevy C10 project truck. As a side note, I also found a Midland Model 13-861 and have to test that one as well. I really enjoy your videos and appreciate the time you spend posting them.

Bought this exact model back in the 70's during the CB craze. Used it may a dozen hours or so, still in very good condition. Your video prompted me to try it out after many decades. Hooked it to a CB antenna, powered it up, everything lights up but no transmit. Also, the speaker 'motorboats' as the squelch is decreased, very loud. Still going to see if I can fix it, too nice of a CB to get rid of.

In the early '70s I had a 23-channel JCPenney base station with a Turner + 3 desktop mic. I couldn't remember the base station model number to save my life as I was too young. Had a 20-ft mast with the omnidirectional antenna on the roof but my first antenna was no whip off of a bicycle that I wrapped with magnetic wire to make my antenna it worked but not very well again I was very young A quick Google search came back as a pinto 23

J.C.Penney had another SSB base unit that was just a little fancier looking, the 6241. I had one for years connected to a Turner Super Sidekick mic. I used it with a Shooting Star at 60ft and a Shakespeare Big Stik above it. Great radio, I still have it, but haven't powered it up in years.

CQ is a code used by wireless operators, particularly those communicating in Morse code, (- · - · - - · -), but also by voice operators, to make a general call (called a CQ call). Transmitting the letters CQ on a particular radio frequency is an invitation for any operators listening on that frequency to respond. It is still widely used in amateur radio.
@scooters5519

From the ARRL Glossary, CQ is defined as “Calling any station.” It is the general call when requesting a conversation with anyone.

I’m a ham, that’s what’s used in calling anyone out there. In Morse code CQ is used. It’s short for “Seek You” in voice (phone) mode.

Yes sir Eric JCPenney's made some quality gear back in the 70s and 80s they had very good CB radios I've seen several of them for sale recently. They're MCI line of stereo receivers was fantastic I do believe I still own a couple of them. Technics made a lot of their gear for them back in the day along with several other companies. But it was some good quality stuff
