Hi!
Disclaimer. While this isn't a paid review, Ordinary labs did send over a rev. 2 unit of their keyboard and I decided to take a look at it on stream. None the less, this doesn't affect my thoughts about the board at all.
MY THOUGHTS:
The Dymium65 is an in stock keyboard that costs $275 and uses some magnets to close the board. It's a fun thought to have magnets in your board and to do away with screws. But it is rather novel. The original unit I was sent had an error with the daughter board placement that didn't allow it to close, but Ordinary labs was quick to fix this.
The board is in stock, features a magnet enclosure system, a gasket system sort of unique to the Dymium (basically these fun little gaskets that fit onto the plate/pcb assembly), a knob, and some foams to dress it up however youd like.
My issue with the board is it has flex cuts. I know... this is totally subjective but after seeing what the Cycle7 did with their take on flex cuts and providing some silicone plugs for it, I was in love. Ordinary labs did say this is something they were going to look into for the future. I also didn't quite like the adhesive badge. While it does fit very well onto the board, I think it's a missed chance at using another magnet for this! It's not a big issue at the end of the day.
The design of the board is great! It has fun curves that plays with the light very well and feels great when using no foam. With foam it's a tad stiffer so this is preference. Sound wise it has so much potential in it's stock form but definitely needs the tape mode to bring back some lost loudness from the flexcuts.
At the end of the day, I think the design, packaging and in stock nature of this custom makes for a fun pick up if you wanted something fun to build and modify.
