Just one amazing facet of his career… “show biz” as he would say. He was a rock star, an amazing leader, and an incredible father. No words can captivate his absence but I know the Blue Angel is where he was destined to be and know he’s still whispering in my ear every step of the way so that I have a fighting chance at not taking the life he gave me for granted. Going to miss you so much, Dad.

Bill flew many air shows with me in Skyhawk 518. Superb aviator and even better friend. I miss him every day and will cherish his memory as long as I live.

Thank you for making this video. Boss Newman led the Blues the first time I watched them fly as a kid. That airshow made a permanent stamp on me where I knew I would always love aviation. Decades later in 2017 when I was volunteering at the Heritage Flight Museum in Burlington, WA all the pilots there were gathered around listening to someone telling test pilot stories. I’d never seen this person before and everyone was hanging on his every word. Eventually I was introduced to Boss Newman. When I found out who he was I shook his hand and thanked him. I told him how seeing him lead the Blues as a kid led me to a lifelong love of aviation and becoming an aviation photographer. As I left I thanked him again and jokingly told him “Just so you know, this (pointing at myself) is all your fault.”

I’d also like to add that as recently as 2018 Boss Newman was still flying as a safety pilot in privately owned TA-4J Skyhawk #518 that was flying at different airshows. And that plane had cold (non-functional) ejection seats! What an amazing guy!

That was in my jet, Skyhawk 518. We flew many air shows together and enjoyed every minute of our time together, both in and out of the jet. I really miss Bill and he will always be on my mind. Superb aviator, wonderful person and friend. Miss you buddy.

Sir, we are having a Celebration of Life for Bill Newman at the Mercer Island, Washington VFW post on March 22. Would you consider sending me a file of your "Remembering Boss Bill Newman" in video format so that I can play it for the Celebration for Bill? I have tried to embed it into the powerpoint but the playback is very unreliable so I would be most appreciative if you could send me the actual video. Thank you.

Do fighter jet pilots take in consideration the earth's curvature when performing airshows?
