Top tip to drain the caps. With the PSU disconnected from the mains try and power your rig a few times. That will dump any stored power in the caps

I used wire cutters to snip away the grill in front of the fan as I thought the noise was coming from the metal grill ribbing on the fan. This was not the case but it was good because I didn't need to take out the PSU as I had access to the bearing cover having cut away the grill already. I used 1 drop of electric razor oil and it worked! Now I have a quiet computer again. Thank-you 😀

I use silicon shock oil and it works great for my psu fan. It glides smooth and silent now when before it used to make a rattle sound.

I have worked on these units. That fan cord is suppose to be shoved at the side of the case and can only done correctly by first plugging the fan in and position the cord on the side, then putting the case over it, then fixing the fan and grill. Not doing it this way will likely result in the loose cord hitting the fan with gravity.

my fans are driving me nuts too - i'm hyper sensitive to noise and it's a nightmare for me, so much so i've been resorting to buying new pcs, but even they are noisy, so now i'm going to try lube them all with oil arghh

Mine is doing this right now and its annoying to the point that im hitting my computer to get it to stop for .5 to 2 seconds. I figured id have to buy a new one but hopefully this will do the trick. thx Do you think gun oil will work ok? thats the only thing i have lying around other than wd40. I just looked up my PSU... Found a review from 2008. Holy crap.. its jan 1st 2023 and ive been using the same PSU since the late 2000's. I had no idea it was that old.

if it jept it's shit together for fiteen years then don't change it, 'cause it means it's capacitors are "immune" to dryrotting (most non-solid caps do that in 5-10 years of useage). 😅

how long do warranties last for, is it worth doing this because my PSU is rattling a bit.
@PimptatoPCs
3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure, probably no more than 3 years. Some companies might have longer ones. This was a second hand PSU and it was almost 10 years old. It was either replace the fan or try to oil it up. I think it is totally worth it to replace a PSU fan if that's the only thing wrong with it. You can always contact the manufacturer of your PSU and ask about their warranty before opening it up.

3:24 Duude. Put on a mask. Do you want to irritate your lungs? It is not really worth it. Even a 0.5$ FFP1 mask would suffice.
