I liked how Earth would still encounter the Ashen, but under different circumstances. But with the foreknowledge still come out ahead again.

Looks like all those comments on yesterday’s video concerning Chuck’s pronunciation of Ashen were so effective they were able to influence him years ago to say it correctly when back when he originally recorded this one. 😜

In Arthur C. Clarke's _2010_ (the sequel to _2001),_ an alien race turned Jupiter into a sun. Here, "2001" is a sequel to "2010" - in which an alien race was trying to turn Jupiter into a star. That's too specific to be mere coincidence.

The aliens from these last two episodes kind of remind me of the Reach from DC comics. All they're missing is something akin to the Blue Beetle to infiltrate civilizations to build trust before they make the predatory deal.

@@Mobysimo given how intelligent they’re supposed to be, you’d think if SGC was able to solve the problem of the gate being connected to a black hole, then the Ashen would too. Also, come to think of it, we have no idea if the general population knows what their government is doing to other worlds or would even approve if they did, meaning SG1 may have committed genocide against an innocent population. 🤔

@@lordofuzkulak8308 then again, their understanding of how stargates work is rudimentary compared to SGC, maybe they don't know about the energy pulse-wormhole jumping mechanism that saved earth. I've always imagined that the black hole got them.

Jack doesn't trust any race that doesn't have a sense of humor. Daniel, in a theoretical rebuttal: "Jack, has Thor or any of the Asgard ever once laughed at any of your lame ass one-liners?" I do like Jack's gesture towards Kinsey at the end: "O'Neill! TWO 'L's!" And then he throws up two fingers with his middle finger. He knows exactly the right way to be the insubordinate subordinate.

And Jack's theoretical rebuttal would be "No, but I'm pretty sure Thor's teleport gag counts as humour. ...Maybe."
@DarkLordDiablos

Thor has a sense of humour for certain since the Asgard named their most advanced starship after O'Neill then proceeded to blow it up when it became infested with Replicators. The look of disappointment when Jack hears that is evident enough.

I think it's because they could exploit other races for additional things that way. Like Carter was working on the Jupiter ignition project, presumably because she's smart enough to be helpful, even to them. That said, Chuck wasn't sure which weapon they were firing on Earth at the end of this episode, but it was made clear: It was the bio-weapon that targeted an enemy's specific DNA. In other words, they were going to cleanse Earth of all human life rather quickly.

Of this trilogy of episodes 1969, 2010 and 2001. 2001 was the one that spoke to me least. I never felt the drama Chuck was talking about. We know these guys are butheads and we SG1 will win the day. I think the biggest mistake of episode was killing Sam's 2010 husband. Considering a few years down the road they tried to give Sam a home life and boyfriend. it would have created a lot more tension between 2010 guy and Jack knowing 2010 guy already made it work with Sam.

I don't understand the thinking behind "igniting a gas giant/Jupiter into a second star. Wouldn't that screw up the solar system, a lot? Gravity, Solar cycles, UV Rays, solar flares, day and night cycles would be in flux or destroyed entirely?
@captianmorgan7627

As to the extra light/radiation you'd get, yes I imagine it would cause issues. Gravity wouldn't change, unless they added more mass to Jupiter to cause the fusion to start.
