How in the world do they make the brick sculptures? Do they make a mold and custom cast the brick, or is it just an illusion to look like brick?

Love all the classic buildings. That church was amazing. We have a few cool churches and University buildings in Pittsburgh that I find absolutely fascinating. People really went all out for a great finished project back in the day. Where could I share a few pics with you?

Old architecture fascinates me too. I think when you’re in the building game you just have a natural appreciation for amazing creations. And when you think about how old these buildings and churches are in Britain, it just grabs so much of your respect knowing the limited tools and equipment available in those days, and yet still produce masterpieces that eclipse most modern day stuff

You've given us a tour of Wigan Stu. No pie shop? I love architecture. How the Victorians got the classic orders so wrong with their brashness, chucking money and imposing their stature on everyone. The Georgians were so more refined and revived the classic orders so beautifully. Modernism and brutalism to me is just horrible. Unless it's a pie shop :)

From Flikr: O & C Rushton Ltd Originally built as a food and grain warehouse this structure is three storeys in hard red brick, frontage 45m to new Market Street of 11 bays divided by brick pilasters and 25m in 4 bays to Parson's Walk. Ground floor elliptical arched windows have drip moulds and fluted keystones; pairs of rectangular windows with continuous stone heads and cills at first floor; pairs of round headed windows at second floor; fluted terracotta keystones continue as corbel brackets to dentilled cornice; parapet wall proclaims AD 1900 O & C Rushton Limited AD1905. The stock brick north elevation of the civic office is by contrast austere and unornamented.

Hi Stu, I'm 19 and not really sure what to do with my life I'm planning on starting a bricklaying full time course, It looks really interesting I'm quite intelligent and physically fit and I've heard about tradesmen doing work "Down South" (London) for 2 weeks on then coming back home and having 2 weeks off is this true or was he bluffing?, I'm choosing a full time course over an apprenticship because I can't live on £3 an hour I tried an Electrical one it didn't really fascinate me and it was £3 an hour and I'd only have been on £5 by now since the apprenticeships for electrical are 4 years, many thanks.

Totaly unrelated re the architecture but i was passing the Court house some years ago and as yourself admiring the building when a youth on a motorbike was zooming up and down, on the pavement outside. This guy had no helmet on and obviousley no reguard for the law. This was during the day when the court was probably in session!!!! Anyway, nice one stu, I wonder if Wigan Little Theater was a religious hall back in the day?

If you thought the public look at you funny when you have a camera, watch out for security guards and police. They can hassle you and arrest you just because they can't understand that's its normal for a photographer to wander around with a camera.

They offer all the bricks up in a room and they are un fired clay bricks. They then sculp the bricks and take they to be numbered and fired in the kiln. Then they are rebuilt 👍
