Turkey was not lucky in this tournament at all. They won it by pure talent, strength, and belief in themselves. They have always been one of the powerhouses in the past. But psychologically, they were fragile. But now, they have the strongest winning mentality in women volleyball. The VNL and European Cup are just a start. There is definitely more to come from Turkey. Solid team, solid coach, solid everything.

It was a statement win. It was a political exclamation point. That's why they had the mental upper hand. The Turkish Volleyball Dream Team brought home not one but two gold medals in the 100th anniversary year of our republic, and we are certain that they'll make us proud again in the upcoming Olympics. They were aware of the people's need for a morality boost after the disastrous earthquakes, economical struggles, and women's rights issues in the country. So they came out and delivered. As Ataturk once said: “Oh heroic Turkish woman, you are not to be dragged on the ground, but to be risen to the sky on shoulders.”

Very well expressed with excellent English phrasing. The Turks get going, when the going gets tough. When the Turks are cornered and are at their last threads, than that's when they lash out all hell. It was the belief of a single man called Mustafa Kemal Paşa who inoculated a whole nation with his skills as a commander in field and as a statesman to a whole nation. His belief and will brought the Turkish nation its independence in the Turkish War of Independence against a multitude of nations fighting against it. I wish the final was between Poland and Türkiye, that would have been a thriller 🤷🏻♂️ Well done Turkish Womans Volleyball Team..... 🧿👏👏👏👏👏🧿

Attempts to usurp women's basic rights, the abolition of the Istanbul Convention, the targeting of homosexual individuals (there are two lesbian women in our team and there are also people who do not hesitate to target them), the narrowly lost elections... Nothing can overshadow the resistance of women in this country. Our team represents this and plays for it. For example, Ebrar was targeted many times because of her sexual orientation, but in the Italy match she still cheered the team up with her joy and played a huge role in winning the match. When Vargas, who scored the last point in the final game, hugged Ebrar first, the support they showed for each other made my eyes fill with happiness. We should not forget that there are many people in this country who love and support them, who respect the fundamental rights of individuals and the struggle of women. We as women are here and we are proud of them💜

Turkiye had a brutal route on reaching both finals of the VNL and the CEV european. beaten all the powerhouses in womens volleyball. in the past , Turkiye would have the fear factor when facing the powerhouses , and would struggle especially against USA. now the Psychology has reversed. Now all the other nations have the fear against Turkiye. they all feel they need to put Turkiye away in 4 sets .because they do not want to face Turkiye in a 5th set , you feel they put all thier efforts and energy in the 4 sets and it still was not good enpugh to beat Turkiye and get Psychology beating by facing Turkiye in the final set . the sheer power in attack and defence of Turkiye has worn them down . Turkiye has strenghth in depth also with so many talented players on the bench .

There are so much things to say, but I just want to inform non Turkish people about why volleyball matters a lot in Turkey. As you know, the political decisions of Turkish people in the last two decades took us to an unpleasant economical and social place, to say the very least. We don't experience pleseant emotions frequently in our daily lives as things got harder and it's been a lot since we didn't have the success we starve. (You know how patriotic we are xd) Despite all the bad conditions, despite all the corruption of Turkish nation, these girls showed a priceless effort and came back home with two trophies. Trophies are of course cool, but the mentality behind them is waaay cooler. This team made us remember who we are, what we are capable of once we believe, and also how much we love each other. I meant to write a nice explanation but as far as I see it just ended up being a mess. Its 23.00 now and I'm sleepy af. Anywayss, I hope this gives you a few insights, stay with the volleyball! One more thing, the content was amazing. I watched it to the end and it was definitely worth it. Keep up!

Turkish girls fight not only for the game of volleyball but also for the women's liberation in the country against the islamo-fascists. The islamo-fascists try to snatch the freedom of f the women step by step that women in Turkey was granted by the revolutionary leader Kemal Ataturk in 1920s. That gives them extra energy. They know that all the secular people of Turkey and the world are supporting them against the religious fundamentalists.
@serhatyaran

The emotional motivation of the Turkish team is a little bit political also. You can see this in their post-match statements, almost every player mentioning the founding principles and founding fathers of the modern Turkey. 2023 is also the 100th year of the modern Turkey. The current political situation in Turkey is like a battle between islamists and modernists. And this battle goes way beyond the political system. It became a matter of survival, especially for the modernist women (because religios ideology always target the women first). That's why; 1) yes they wanted to accomplish a sportive goal, and 2) they wanted to show the strength and importance of Turkish women against the islamists. Maybe they wanted the second one, more than the first one.

The games against Italy and Serbia were interesting. If Turkey had played like they did against Poland it was probably going to be 3-0 wins in both games. But constant mistakes and tactical issues killed their psychology. Mental fortitude is the main problem of Turkish teams in sports. They managed to bounce back not once, but twice, proving that it wasn't a fluke. They have the capability to regain their ''mojo''. However, I'm not too content on the errors they have made. At times it felt like it was Turkey vs. Turkey. Serbia wouldn't have won the first set for example if we didn't give them +5 points just from serving errors. It was annoying to see the team putting in all that effort to score a few points and then gifting it back in a silver platter because they fail serves, or 2 players colliding with each other trying to receive at the same time. It's good that they have the mental strentgh to not give up (although I'm not sure about the moments of panic they had), but they also make a lot of very simple mistakes that the opponents rarely do. They are constantly shooting themselves in the foot and allowing the opponent to keep up. It's tiring to always be the one chasing and it might back-fire one day, so they should stop putting themselves in that position.
@Sanguine830
Жыл бұрын
I am certain Santarelli sees this too, they will train hard to minimize service errors and other easy mistakes. Even though, it wasn’t an easy win against Serbia and Italy due to team integrity fluctuations and easy mistakes; I believe the difficulties they faced due to their mistakes have been very useful since it puts them in a situation where they had to deal with pressure, and they most likely gained a lot of experience and builded resilience, mental toughness thanks to it.

You are so right about the part that this is not just about winning. Im a woman who lives in Turkiye and after the team won the match we were happy obviosly but not because of we beat Serbia we were happy because there is this Islam obbessed group of people (and there is a lot of them in Turkiye) thinks that we should not play volleyball because of the clothes it is not right for their religon. And the most fucked up part is that group of people bullied Ebrar Karakurt so hard because she is a lesbian They hate Lgbt people and make pressure on them because Lgbt against their religon. Before every match they say fucked up things about Ebrar and she had to deal with these bad comments before the match but obviosly this situation effects her performance. And this is why we have to win these games it gives women who lives in Turkiye courage to defend and protect their rights and their freedom (sorry for my English im not native i have tried to explain the situation)

I want to thank you for making this video because you are right. This wasnt only about winning in a sport. This championship was actually more sociopolitical. Because of the politic situations in turkey, women are facing degration by conservatives. Especially our voleyball team faced ridiculous words because they are wearing short shorts, throwing after parties after winning and especially our precious player ebrar karakurt keep getting hate because of her boyish look and sexuality. Ebrar is a funny and goofy person. She likes to make goofy faces in matches but in the final match you could clearly see how stressful she was and i personally believe the hateful tweets towards her was one of the reasons. This team wasnt just playing against other countries, in this championship they were also trying to prove how powerful women can be to their own country

Actually also full of turkish team grown up and got their potential too. Ebrar was using only her raw power and ustable. Gizem orge is not playing because of the old coach had a issue with her. Zehra was always a giant wall but she was too slow for her opponents due to her size. Hande is a great defensive player but now she can attack too. Vargas is struggling to pass the blocks, because enemy blockers was focusing on her. But after the ebrar came and became one of the roosters, vargas gained the self confidence the pass the blocks, even she was blocked, she knew ebrar would got the score. The vargas-ebrar duo is a whole another level. The only thing didnt changed in the team is captain EDA ERDEM. She is always believing on the team, whatever the situation is. When everyone falls and gets demotivated, she was holding the team and pushing everyone on her shoulders. The responsibility on her was though, you can see in her at eu finals last serve. She was crying while serving, after all of their hardwork, Turkey finally got the cup.

This was very well described, but I think that it glossed over the mental factor during the final game too much. In the final it was incredibly intense to see how in most sets that Türkiye won they were leading by 5-7 points at a time, only to lose that advantage and have Serbia close the gap to a really tight end. Serbia put up a great fight, especially mentally. I think the pressure really showed on Hande who messed up many first touches, but she ultimately got back in the game, just like Ebrar did in the past games where she got so riled up she lost her cool during many key plays, and was criticised for it. You didn't mention the whole deal with Guidetti coaching Türkiye for years and then being sacked because he failed to ultimately win last season, who now is in the finals right against his own team with a lot to prove. The stakes were so high for him, and a perfect example of that was the last timeout speech he gave to serbia, all about belief and willpower. It could have been cool to include that to show both sides' mental headspace. Great video nonetheless. I feel so lucky to be a fan of Turkish volleyball during these past few seasons which feel like a golden era for the history books.

You mentioned their loss to Poland. Japan defeated Spain 4 - 0 in the group stages of the Fifa Women's World Cup in Australia recently. Then Japan lost to Sweden in the Quarter finals 1 - 2. Then Spain clashed with Sweden in the Semi Finals. Since Sweden defeated Japan, pre match statistics would tell you that Sweden should have trumped Spain. But Spain won 2 - 1. And Spain moved into the final to win the tournament against England. Whoever has done their homework, whoever is headstrong on the day wins.
