What a treasure! This will help me for the 1970s Subway Stations reproduction, since pretty much nothing changed from the 1970s to the 1990s except the signs and the color of pillars, railings...

Amazing video! I was born and raised in October 1997 in Brooklyn, NY and the NYC Subway is my all-time favorite hobby. These clips you uploaded was taken in 1996 and 1997. Wow, all these SMEEs trains were really the king of the NYC Subway until the early 2010s, These Subway trains that I’m talking about in the late 90s are The Redbirds, R32, R38, R40 Slant, R40M, R42, R44, R46, R62, R62A, R68, and R68A. Man I’m going to miss every SMEE trains once when they get replaced by the NTT trains in the future. Thank you trainluvr for uploading this awesome video.

I love this!! Every xmas break without fail since i was 5yrs old (1990) my mom took me into nyc to see the Rockettes. We would take the train from 30th st station in philly into grand central or sometimes penn station n spend 2nites at the milford plaza hotel. We rode the subway all the time when we were there. We kept the tradition going well into my teen\adult years except we swapped out the Rockettes for broadway shows starting when i was about 15 lol. I miss her..she passed in 2011😢its hard to go to nyc without her even still to this day.

Thank you for posting this video. I miss all the old subways from the graffiti trains to the red birds as well as the phase 2 R32s and R42s. This was just a few years before the MTA rolled out those ugly bull shit robot tech cars which in my opinion, ruined the MTA. The older cars had more uniqueness to it. The newer cars are plain and boring

Keeping in mind how gritty the subway was during the 80s and in many ways still is today (unfortunately), it seems things were heading up a little bit in the 90s, though I suppose the bar was set quite low overall. Honestly, what the subway needs now is a HUGE injection of cash, not just to rebuild and refurbish all stations and replace the tracks and buy new trains, but also to install CBTC on every single line, as soon as possible. I would argue the outdated/faulty signalling system and uninviting (claustrophobic and dirty) stations are the subway's biggest problem right now. Delays + Dirt/Grime don't make for a great customer experience. It's true that Republicans (and a lot of Democrats) won't like the idea of providing so much public funding (we're talking billions here, in grants, not loans), but it's the only way. Maybe to appease those people, they could simultaneously put operations of the Subway out to tender (like in many European countries). The MTA would still take care of maintenance and infrastructure works, but would save money on the day to day operations (driver training, drivers' wages, signalling staff etc.). The private operator would of course pay an access fee to the MTA. If run correctly, the New York subway could definitely prove to be both profitable and efficient. I don't think all this is strictly necessary, but if it maybe appeases Republicans somewhat and leads to billion dollar public investment, then I'd be all for it, even as someone who thinks the MTA does an alright job, given the lack of funding and of political will to invest in public transport.
@alexmunch6118

Quit comparing the subway system here to the system in European countries. What works for them wont necessarily work for the system here. And what you're suggestion would cost a shit load of money, as if we're not paying enough here in train fare and taxes. While I agree that SOME changes need to happen but to suggest that every station gets fixed would not only cost too much money but would also inconvenience passengers big time with delays, having to find alternative stations to catch the subway and etc etc. And many people here live where theres only one train line . So what you're suggestion is nuts, You're living in fantasy land. If you dont like the system here, dont use it. Simple as that. You sound like one of those whiney, annoying ass millennials that has no taste and thinks that anything thats not "new" is no good
@andrewoakeshott7759

@@alexmunch6118 Well forgive me for my European perspective, I am indeed European ;) That said, on the occasions that I have visited New York, I can't say that I was massively dissatisfied with the subway. It's not as clean or efficient as in most western European cities I've been to, but it has its charm and I didn't have any issues figuring it out either (which a lot of tourists apparently seem to have). However, from what I've read and heard, if the subway had an approval rating, it would be truly abysmal. It is my understanding that New Yorkers, generally, are not very happy with the level of service, punctuality and dirt/grime. In terms of refurbishing stations, I think it needs to happen sooner or later. The difference in cleanliness between Madrid's Metro or London's Underground and New York's subway is truly staggering. Refurbishment would of course have to happen over time, not every station can be refurbished simultanously. But yes, it should happen if New Yorkers would like to have a more attractive service (which polls suggest they do).
@alexmunch6118
2 жыл бұрын
@@andrewoakeshott7759 Thats cool that you're European and although many New Yorkers would like to see the system here the same as the European countries, im just saying that its unrealistic. What works for Europe may not work for here. Those are just facts. One thing that does need to improve here are the signal systems. Pretty often we have signal related issues so an upgrade in the signal system is certainly needed. As far as the stations themselves are concerned, the only thing that needs fixing in some of the stations is a good paint job on the ceilings as some of the paint in certain stations are peeling badly. So of course thats unhealthy for passengers. Other than that, we already have new train cars here and many of the older fleets that are running here work very well. I prefer the older cars simply because the insides are bigger which makes more room on crowded rush hour days. Where the newer cars are very narrow. And just my opinion, the tech trains look a little plain. I dont need a train with an automatic system telling me where its going or what the next stop is. Those features are just a waste of money. If people want to know they're going, they need to look out the window and pay attention to the stops. Nothing personal from my previous post. Take care and stay safe
@andrewoakeshott7759
2 жыл бұрын
@@alexmunch6118 There's something we can certainly agree on! A good paint job and better maintenance/cleaning of stations would definitely go a long way in creating a more attractive system for customers, but as you say, fixing the signalling system should probably take priority over all that. And in Europe too there's a lot of window-dressing going on, because transport authorities here also like to make a big hoo-ha out of new passenger information screens, new announcement systems or any other bells and whistles / gizmos they can think of, rather than investing that money in better maintenance or a better service. No offence taken by the way, you too have a nice day ;)
@alexmunch6118
2 жыл бұрын
@@andrewoakeshott7759 Exactly! It seems like the people here in charge of public trans make the wrong things priority. For example, our former governor wanted to make even newer train cars than what we have today instead of focusing on the real issues as i addressed before. Newer train cars are useless if the signal systems are still compromised. Almost every day there are always delays on one of the lines due to signal systems not working properly and that of course causes delays. Just a few years ago, our signal system was delayed so many times, it made news headlines and I saw a few people talking to news reporters of them being late for work and job interviews. Personally. i feel that the people in charge dont really care. All they care about is money and people work for the MTA here make a shit load of money. We will see what happens later on Take care!
