It's very versatile and I have enjoyed it. I thought it's aperture (3.5 - 6.3) would bother me but it really hasn't and for the price, it's a crazy good lens.

this is really good macro close up looking video from a non macro lens. did you use some closeup filter? good production quality.

No, but I did use a post-production anamorphic filter. It was cheap but it adds a little something-something. store.pixelfilmstudios.com/product/fcpx-toolbox-cinema/

I do, but really depends on what your desired outcome is. I've used it in a lot of run-and-gun documentary situations which is great because of how versatile it is with being able to do wide shots and extremely tight shots. It's like a really good kit lens. It is not great in low light and if you want better build quality and good lowlight performance with really nice bokeh you'd be better off with a 70-200mm 2.8. There is a pretty big price difference between those lenses though.

@@Garrett_DownTheRabbitHole my most important feature is that it's "parfocal" I zoom in and out fast sometimes, so I need it to keep focus on subject. I don't know if you're aware of this with that lens? 🧐 I used to use 24-70 GM lens, but recently bought a 70-180 Tamron for further reach, but that loses focus when zooming out fast 😭

@@GeekyStuff I haven't had any issues with that (At least that I can recall) I would think this lens would perform much better than the Tamron just because it is a Sony lens. And if you are shooting on sony the autofocus shouldn't have many issues. Also depends on the body it's self older sony models and their autofocus are rough but the a7siii (which I shoot with now) is great.

@@Garrett_DownTheRabbitHole yea I use a Sony A7SIII. I think I might loan this lens and test it. If it keeps focus on zooming then I'll buy it for sure! Thanks for the video. 👌

Hello! Can you tell me how many frames we filmed in the video?
@Garrett_DownTheRabbitHole

I shot in a mixture of 120fps and 60fps. Then edited in a 24fps timeline. So the final look is all 24fps.

Thanks! Actually, I have very shaky hands. The trick is to make sure there is some sort of tension to help smooth out that shake. I did this by wearing the neck strap of my camera and holding the camera out with both hands to the point that the strap is taut. Then I create the movements by leaning not walking. I hope that helps!

I bounce between FCPX (which I prefer) and Premier, this video was all done in FCPX.
