Thank you so much for sharing Kat, your story resonates with me. I was in Maui in March 2022 at Napoli beach and I had a drowning episode. It was horrible horrible I was knocked down by these waves and I rolled in them. I was disorientated I could not get up I could not stand or control my body. I felt like I was in a washing machine at one point I open my eyes and I saw my husband on the beach and he had this look of terror on his face. I finally realized that I was going to die that I was drowning, and I said, dear God, if this is meant to be take me, please blessed me and all my children, and within a matter of seconds of minutes, I felt these hands grab my body and another set of hands grab me and they pulled me and lifted me up and they saved my life so beautiful couple from Illinois that were walking down the beach and they saw me drowning and they rushed it and saved my life. I owe my life to Ryan and Taylor but I did learn one thing never trust the ocean. I am a very good swimmer, but the waves knocked me down and drag me out and they were coming and crashing and crashing and I could not get up. I swallowed water. It was just a terrible terrible episode , and I am thankful for the people that saved my life. I’m so thankful for God that he gave me more days on this earth. Praise be to God.

I was sitting on Waimea on a calm evening. The waves were gentle so I let my little one play on the beach just about 15 feet from me. A really large rogue wave came crashing in and swept him away. Luckily I screamed to my husband who was in about 4 feet of water below us. Thank God he reached in and grabbed his just in time. Never been so terrified in my life. Thank God you were ok.

@@matthewsparks8821Yeah bro I grew up in FL and I thought I could handle Hawaiian beaches when it comes to swimming but holy shit I was at pipeline beach on Oahu in the early morning and the waves are intimidating asf. It’s like big waves that form on Florida beaches but they break right on the shore they don’t lose inertia or size a lot of times. So when you get in the water you gotta time it right because you don’t want to get stuck in that feedback loop where the wave breaks on you and you get disoriented but then another one comes.

I know how scary the ocean can get. Especially on the North Shore. Staying calm is absolutely key to surviving. Also, learning to surf can tremendously help you learn the way of the ocean, how to read it, how to survive in it, how to enjoy it again. I hope you get back out there. Glad you lived to tell the tale. Good thing you married a Hawaiian.

Omg i just happened to be scrolling and your page came up for me. First of all, thank you for sharing this. It was truly a story in both faith and fear, however faith won out like it always does. So happy you are safe and that God led you home to your kids and husband! You are meant to be here and share your gifts with the world. My family and I are going to Oahu and Maui in March and so this has really been a Godsend to me as far as the ocean goes. I grew up in California in a coastal town so I was always at the beach. My Italian grandmother would always caution me when I would go swim and let me know not to get overly confident in the ocean by affirming that mother nature was always in control. I have always remembered that when frequenting oceans in Cali but I guess i didn't consider the beaches in Hawaii UGH. So very grateful to have been educated by you... specifically though what information should i ascertain regarding beaches we will visit? I wouldn't know where or how to begin. In Cali, I can just sort of tell you know but Hawaii will be a whole new beast. Any beaches you can recommend in oahu and maui deemed safe for swimming for my kiddos? any info I should study up on regarding beaches, waves, etc etc? thanks in advance! God Bless U

Thanks for sharing. I can totally relate to the peaceful feeling. I would have been around 8 years old when I lost my footing in our local river and slipped away into the middle and drifted off. I didn't even know how to swim at that point as I was a late learner. Thank god I was discovered by a young local girl on the other side of the river who swam after me and pulled me to shore. She was probably only 2 years older than myself. Strangely from this event I lost my fear of my head being under water etc and was then able to self teach myself to swim at our local pool. I grew up with my aged Grandparents who were not able to take me to the water to learn to swim like I saw with other kids. The profound memory was the calmness and everything slowing down. As I write I can still see the sunken objects at the bottom of the river in my mind. So grateful to the gal that pulled me out. I am now 54 years young.

I lived in Hawai’i for a long time, married there, had my oldest there, my brother lived there for 20 years. Luckily, I was born in Puerto Rico, raised in Miami, and spent my summers in the oceans of PR. But when I began swimming in the North Shore, I realized how different those waters were.. they quickly would change. My sister got caught in a rip ride feet from me, and by the Grace of God I grabbed her ankles and somehow pulled her out. The waters of Hawai’i are no joke. So glad you made it … I pray you continue feeling ok with spending time back in the water, but i hope you never go in those waters alone, or without at least letting your husband know that you’re going in.

I’m so happy you are safe! Speaking from experience I actually have died and was brought back when I had my first child and then was near death in a car wreak than having surgery I woke up and aspirated while having a seizure. This is all on top of so many life changing things including my mom calling me her miracle child because I was not supposed to be born at all. I know that God put me here for a reason or reasons and although I don’t know what they are I’m ok with living and trying to honor the decision for letting me live against so many odds. I do have ptsd however , I am grateful. So, feel what you feel and enjoy every breath and if you need to talk to a therapist. I was brought up feelings are not heard and you push everything down when it’s not happy and because I did that it caused many issues for me as I got older. I talk to a therapist have been for 2 years and it has helped a great deal! I’m not saying I’m cured I definitely have my bad and good days but we are human so that’s ok.

In the moment of my near death the questions entered my mind, “if I pass today, who have I physically helped in this world?” Have I literally fed someone hungry? Have I hugged the person I don’t know, that’s crying? Have I only talked about helping without action? Do I put more attention into maintaining the right look, the perfect house, car, children, wanting people to see me in a certain way? None of these things matter, at all, in this life, to our creator. It all passes away the second we pass and the ONLY thing left here, are the lives that we changed by our walk/actions and not our talk. 😊. My life changed. Life goals changed. Things I thought important before, my appearance, money spent on home, holidays, activities, all changed. My former self did pass. I would consider myself before as a very kind and loving person but now, I was shown that I was to put all of that compassion and kindness into physical action to serve and change lives of others. So every day I ask, “who’s life, did I help today”? I got, one more chance, to really make a difference🥰

First, let me say, so glad you’re still here! I had sepsis and almost died, and what it taught me was that I wasn’t LIVING. I was merely surviving. I was focused on all the wrong things, and not on what really mattered. It really took me almost dying to start living. I live every single day with gratitude and feel incredibly blessed. I watch the sunrise and/or sunset everyday and spend that time in meditation and prayer, asking what can I do tomorrow that will show grace and kindness to others? I focus on every single blessing, even being extremely sick now, I still am surrounded in blessings & I am thankful every moment. I have never once asked “why me?”. I’ve learned no matter your situation, someone always has it worse! I now stop & literally “smell the roses”.

Gosh Kat, I'm so sorry you had to go through that. Near death experiences can be so traumatic. I don't know if you've looked up some of the stories people have posted on youtube of their near death experiences but it's crazy. They say the same thing, they were calm and in a euphoric state. Other's can actually see their own body and go through a life review. It's so crazy to hear other's stories. But I am so happy to hear you're okay. Drowning is literally one of my biggest fears. born and raised on Oʻahu, our family spent a lot of time at Sandy’s and at our beach house near Pipeline. my kūpuna always taught us to always, always, always swim/bodysurf with someone else, never alone. next to observe for signs of a rip current (choppy brown water with little waves). if you’re caught in a newly formed rip current, then always swim parallel to shore with the current. it’s always wise to swim with fins if you choose to swim at beaches with rips; otherwise swim at places like San Souci or Ala Moana.
