Most likely there won't be a 3rd game. The original dev team discontinued back in 2012 when they got shut down by Disney. The lead dev left before the game even finished. The 2nd game was kind of a cash grab, ik it's harsh but it's true.
@sherlockowiec1693

@@lelandharris9639 The original team doesn't have to make the game tho. I don't know why that means there will be no 3rd game. Disney as a whole is a completely different company than it was back then. We recently saw many old franchises getting new titles like Crash 4 for example. So if this remake becomes successful enough I don't see why they wouldn't consider making a sequel.

I completely understand the disappointment that the thinner/paint choices didn’t affect the story all that much, but as someone who gets way too emotionally invested in not hurting a fictional character’s feelings, it definitely makes me feel better knowing me accidentally making a “mean” choice won’t stop me from getting the good ending 😂

I genuinely think a musical video game is such a genius idea and so on par for Disney. It wouldn’t have worked for the first game so I’m glad they didn’t do it but the combination of having only the Mad Doctor singing and making all the other characters aware and confused by it adds a level of and comedy and a level of charm bc the songs r elite
@ExtraordinaryPeoples
2 ай бұрын
I agree that the idea of a musical video game is great, but I disagree that having only the Mad Doctor singing works. Having the other characters aware of and confused by the fact that the Mad Doctor is singing feels like the game is making fun of musicals, not honoring the genre. It makes it feel like the game is ashamed of the fact that it's a musical and is making fun of itself instead of having the conviction to actually go all the way and be what it's trying to be. I also disagree that the songs are elite. I think they're extremely mediocre at best. It is nice to hear a differing perspective, though, and I'm glad that you were able to enjoy it even though I wasn't.

I'd actually like to add that... well, I'm not sure the post-Walt heads of the company really knew Oswald wasn't owned by the studio for years. There was a company easter card from 1982 that featured a ton of Disney rabbits, including an early Roger Rabbit prototype, that had Oswald on it. Coupled with the fact that Disney's Toontown Online referenced Trolley Troubles, the first released Oswald short, also in 2003. Also, Spector developing Epic Mickey was probably a genius move in hindsight. The man developed a tabletop called Toon, a TTRPG based around cartoon logic as opposed to knights and magic.

I've seen the Easter card, but I wasn't aware of the Trolley Troubles reference. The Easter card wasn't a copyright violation because it wasn't a product sold to the public. I am glad that this video got recommended to me. I got into Epic Mickey around 10 years ago, which was like a couple years after the last games in the franchise. As someone who just got started looking into Disney history at the time because I've been a Disney fan my entire life, the premise of the game exploring forgotten and unused aspects of the Disney brand had 7 year old me hooked, despite not playing any of the games. Throughout the years since then, I've looked into the game's story, and I started to appreciate it even more, showing me that Mickey actually has flaws and wasn't always this picture perfect role model that younger kids idolize. Around February of this year (or 2024 for those who might see this comment in the future), I was feeling sick, and I couldn't go to school due to my condition. The day after that, I was getting breakfast and decided to check out the Mini Direct out of curiosity. I still was feeling a bit iffy, but it wasn't as bad as the day before. When I saw the announcement of an Epic Mickey remake coming for all platforms, I felt really excited. I felt so good, that the excitement actually motivated me to return to school. And, I was really happy for the rest of the day. I'm glad Disney decided to approve of a remake for this game, considering it did not only reinvent the mouse, but also a celebration and a bit of an influence for Disney animation and parks. I'd like to say I've enjoyed this video very much. There was a good amount of effort put into it. And like it was mentioned, I was one of the many people who was impacted by the series. Thank you for making this. I can't wait to enjoy the remake, and I hope you do too.

And that we have the choice whether to scrap everything and destroy the world to forget the past or build off it, use it to paint a whole new future, that’s why I am so hyped for epic Mickey rebrushed and I can’t wait to stream it when it comes out .

While Epic Mickey didn't stick with the more gritty aspects of the story, I think it works out pretty well. The one thing of note is the main game kinda downplays the life Oswald was leading prior. You wouldn't really know he considers the animatronic Goofy, Donald and Daisy as friends even though they are robot recreations outside Tales of the Wasteland and some flavor text. for EM2...I think it would of worked better if Ortensia was the one to suggest Oswald give the doc a chance - she'd been stuck as a statue for some time so she might be a bit more naive but get wise to what he's doing sooner than Oswald. Have Oswald still go with it, but once he finds out, he runs off or does something reckless as a result before admitting that his fear is...if the mad doctor can't be redeemed, can he really be redeemed as well?

Ugh, I would love to play this game again.. sadly I don't have a Wii anymore, so why not bringing it to the newer consoles and PC? I have seen Epic Micky 2 on Steam what made me happy, but they have lost out the first one. Have to agree with you with the camera movement and consequences part sadly. But with what I cannot agree with is for me it had some style, that the characters didn't speak. Don't know how to explain that.. it fitted well for me with the style of the game/world. I mean it is nice to have and fits well in the second game! They should give it an option to put the synchro on and off :D Aaand I totally love, that the kept doing the 2D cutscenes. Such a nice charme. It was also really fitting and nice, you could play Epic Mickey 2 with someone together. Sadly Epic Mickey 2 had some bugs and same camera issues I find at least, but played the PC Version so not sure anymore with the Wii. But you say it still was a problem so I guess.. yeah.. meh D: It was okay. Just had one bug where I couldn't finish the world and got stuck real hard :( I could fix it through reinstalling the game. or did I play all again? No.. I guess not. AND YES, Oswald was kinda annoying staying in the way or didn't do what he was supposed to do xD c_c Hearing they had to rush it, makes it really sad.. but still, I love the Universe and the games. Also seeing the Ideas from the epic series that didn't got real is kind off sad.. T_T Epic Donald? I totally would have been in for that. The DS Game looks so good. Never played it, but have seen a Let's Play from it and liked it. Aaargh! I want to play it now.. but wait.. Epic Mickey Rebrushed?? If that happens I am more than happy :D please for PC too. Ahh, that is so nice! Amazing and informative Video! :) Like to see people still talk about this game.

there is something i would like to correct though (very common mistake so i don't blame you), the Shadow Blot is the name specifically given to the fake blot you fight on mickeyjunk, while the true Blot is just named "The Blot" or "Storm Blot", there's a video by FungusNitrogen that explains this a bit further. other than that, great video!

Thanks for the compliment! I just watched FungusNitrogen's video, and I didn't really find it very convincing, honestly. The evidence he presents is pretty thin and sparse, and assumes a lot that just isn't really there. For instance, when Oswald and other characters refer to the "storm" or "storm blot", it seems to me that they're just referring to the form the blot has taken as a giant storm, not that "Storm Blot" is literally the entity's given name. That's just a really bizarre reading to me, and in the video, he seems to just assume it's the correct one. Similarly, "blot" and "shadow blot" are just names that Oswald, Gus, and the others came up with to describe the creature, and they're used interchangeably. When Gus first tells Mickey about the blot, he uses both "Shadow Blot" and "Blot" interchangeably, suggesting that "Blot" is just short for "Shadow Blot". And he never differentiates between the two. I just don't see a really compelling reason to think "Shadow Blot" only exclusively refers to the one specific blotling in question. The only evidence that remotely suggests this is what Abe says in Epic Mickey 2, but that just seems like that one character's way of differentiating between the two forms for the purposes of his retelling of the story. So, I don't think there's a strong case to be made that calling the nightmarish creature made from paint and thinner in Epic Mickey "The Shadow Blot" is inaccurate.

After posting that last comment, I decided to look at the Epic Mickey guide to see how it refers to the Blot, and the guide seems to only use the term "Shadow Blot" in the chapter about the specific boss battle, while using the term "The Blot" everywhere else. So, maybe it actually was the intention for only that specific entity to be called, "The Shadow Blot", but of course, as I posited in my previous comment, the game does not specify this at all.

@@ExtraordinaryPeoples i suppose. in the art book, sometimes they refer to the blot as the storm blot as well. storm blot is basically just an alternate name for the creature so it doesn't really matter anyway (there WAS a tweet from chase jones that confirmed that "storm blot" is a canon name for the blot but unfortunately he deleted his original twitter acc so you'll just have to take my word for it lol)

Unfortunately, I've never read the art book. I wanted to buy it before making this video, but I couldn't find a copy that wasn't extremely expensive. I believe you about the Chase Jones Tweet, but either way, if the creators of the game have to specify this kind of stuff, then it's probably not very clear in the first place.

Im sorry but i cannot understand his "introducing choice and consequence" spiel when the choices *have no* consequences. How can you introduce the concept of something when a core aspect of the thing your introducing isnt even there? Thatd be like introducing someone to the concept of lemonade by giving them sugar water. Sure some of the pieces are there, but on its own its a fundamentally different experience that teaches them nothing about what you're trying to explain to them.

Yeah, I don't think it makes a lot of sense, either. I guess he thought that having the final cut scene depend on what decisions you made was enough to get the idea across, but I don't think that really counts when it's just a cut scene at the end of the game.

I find it so funny Eisner was so scrutinized when now is worse than then! The games Disney allow to be made ONLY have micro transactions. It’s basically a requirement. So now they’re failing in games and in their…”entertainment”. Won’t even consider their recent films as actual films lmfaO Edit: the only exclusion is the upcoming remake but Disney is known for remakes so idek if I count it as it’s not a new original idea. At least Gameloft won’t have a finger on it. Edit 2: John Lassiters comment about “it wouldn’t be fair to bring him back to make him the villain” is so unironically funny and sad. I don’t think it was projecting from him but it sure didn’t age well.

Overall, I would definitely say Eisner was a better CEO than Iger is. By far. Iger is a good businessman, but he isn't creative. Despite some big mistakes and missteps, Eisner was the closest a Disney executive has ever been to Walt Disney.

Hey man good video overall but the whole “more on that later” thing is a bit much, I think if you have to add that note I think you should go back to script to make to make it thorough, or just speak on it when the topic is mentioned
@ExtraordinaryPeoples

I mean, I didn't "add that note." That makes it sound like an afterthought or a result of poor planning, which it was not at all. The three times I did it, it was integral to the structure of the story. I had to mention things and then discuss them later. It wouldn't have made sense to do it any other way. I don't think it's a problem at all.

A: Modern mickey in most media would/should/is a more mature version of himself. He basically grew into the person he wanted to be, a true role model . B: Oswald wasn't the favorite child, but he and his little brother are at least working on patching things up, in my opinion

I feel like this game is so under appreciated even in the gaming community. Epic Mickey was one of the best games I played as a kid, I would totally revisit it if I still had my Wii 😭

"I just feel in this weird sort of way, that (uhh) I'm giving them their hearts back, their hearts are gonna appear in their chest again and they're gonna appear pop back in the real world, and- and people out here are gonna love them again" - Warren Spector I'll be honest, It took me a while to play the first game, because when I was little I played the Second One, and wondered who (almost) everyone were, but later i got to know Oswald's story, and how he's become one of my favorite Disney characters, and when I started playing Epic Mickey 1, I was happy when you get to see Oswald at the beginning before the scene where he talks with Mickey. Now I can say Oswald and many of the Wasteland characters have a heart thanks to those who played the games, they leave a little something in our hearts.

I loved both these games as a kid. Honestly though, I loved the way they did the cutscenes in the first game. I loved the exaggerated movements and noises to convey the emotions like an older cartoon

I'm really happy that I decided to watch this video. I was very wary at first, because I've seen many talking points and think pieces with the same regurgitated thoughts towards this game for years. As soon as I saw you with all your Epic Mickey merch mentioning that it was your favorite game, I definitely perked up and got excited to hear what you had to say! A lot of criticism that comes to this game, from my own experience, has been from people who haven't really played it or ever cared to play it. They don't realize that the people who love this game are already very aquatinted with its flaws and know where it falls short. This game came out right before I was set to go to college, and I went to college for Digital Art and Animation. There was an emphasis on more video game related media, but we did learn a lot of foundational animation skills like hand-drawn flip animation. I was very obsessed with animation and also very obsessed with Oswald, and I remember seeing all those interviews where they talked about replicating old cartoon animation in a 3D space! I loved the idea of a forgotten world with forgotten characters, a lot of it lines up so perfectly with a Kingdom Hearts storyline (another series I was heavily obsessed with as a child) My desire to play this game definitely stemmed from seeing Oswald brought back (I hoped to see more of him afterwards too!) The problem with going to a school focused on video games and animation is that there are a lot of... big criticisms within our own art towards each other but also towards media in those industries. It's kind of like those jokes about meeting someone who took one psychology class and has a lot to say. I remember expressing that I enjoyed Epic Mickey, or I would implore if anyone else had played Epic Mickey, because I thought at the very least that the progress videos of them replicating 2D animation in a 3D space would be REALLY cool for my peers to see. Almost every person I tried to talk to would not stop bringing up the fact that "the game just doesn't live up to the concept art so it sucks" it was infuriating, because it was so dismissive, and eventually it just felt like that was being parroted to me over and over with no context. Also, as a school with an emphasis on art in video games, I would think it's obvious that concept art does not equate final product. Epic Mickey isn't alone in this! I understood the frustration with choices not being as important as you thought, or the paint and thinning abilities not being as flexible and open as people would have liked. That's valid! I would also ask people who brought up those criticisms (especially since I was in a video game obsessed school) what their solutions would be to fix those things in a realistic way, but since they didn't actually play it there wasn't much to actually discuss. I really loved the amount of history you added into this video with the old school animations, the developers, Disney as a company and the games themselves. It's a breath of fresh air for me, honestly. I really enjoy the criticisms too! Even though I had seen most of these interviews, I had never seen the one where Warren Spencer talks about Epic Mickey meaning the most to him because of the fanmail and the amount of people that let him know how important the game was to them. That honestly hit me hard because I hadn't realized how much of a bubble I had felt stuck in over this game. I genuinely thought so many more people hated this game, and there is something so wonderful finding out that it is really well loved. I'm happy that more people will be able to experience it with the remaster! This video was excellent and I really appreciate the work you put into making it.

Thank you for watching, and thank you for the kind words. One of my goals when I make a video like this is to bring something new to the conversation. If a topic has been thoroughly covered, I won't usually talk about it. In the case of this game, there's probably thousands of videos about it, but there's so much to the game and its story that it seems people just never talk about. Honestly, I really agree with you about most of the coverage of this game and its history being pretty shallow and consisting of the same regurgitated talking points. I really felt that way, and it's one reason I wanted to make this video. There's a line from Ratatouille that I really love that goes, "...in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so." I thought about that line a lot while making this video because it really seemed like a lot of the conversation about this game was around its failure and perceived wasted potential, and not about what the game did right or how many people love it, not to mention its place in Disney history in general. Anyway, all that to say, I was very happy to read your comment because a lot of the things you said you enjoyed about the video were things I was specifically trying to do, and so that makes me feel like I succeeded at least a little bit, so thank you for that.
