This show takes place 100 years before TPM, and apparently the Sith already revealed themselves to the Jedi before Darth Maul. That not only retcons the prequel trilogy as a whole and once again breaks canon, but it also make's Ki-Adi-Mundi's line meaningless... "Impossible. The Sith have been extinct for a millennium." I keep hearing people say.. "Well, the Darth Plagueis novel takes place before TPM, and Palpatine and Plagueis were around at that time." To that, I say.. "Yes, Palpatine and Plagueis were around at that time, but they never revealed their true identities to the Jedi."

At this point I don't think anything moving forward is going to have good viewership. Ahsoka performed barely better than Andor, and that was with a fan-favorite character. Mando season 3 was well below the stellar numbers of the first two seasons. Acolyte and Skeleton Crew, featuring no legacy characters, could bomb outright. Honestly, the only thing that might outperform could be Andor season 2. Yeah, the first season had low numbers on release, but word of mouth was strong, it ended on a high note, and got respect with critics and award noms. Season 2 could explode out of the gate.
@JoRoq1

Not just that they are the better offerings, but that they are considered the high points at all. Andor should in no way be considered as one of the leading shows in an ideal world. Not as a complaint against Andor, but simply because of what else was attempted. Andor is clearly a side story to the main saga, with a particular style of story-telling that not everyone likes. It was made to fill a particular niche. Shows like Kenobi and Boba Fett should have been the pinnacles. The facts that they are considered at the bottom of the heap and that Andor is argued for the top tells the current story of Disney-Lucasfilm.

So as an executive, you look at the numbers and say "well at least people watched obi wan and Ashoka" and you get more of that instead of stuff like Andor that gets cut from 5 seasons to 2, if it sees the light of day at all. @nicklibby3784

@@jimdaniels7531 I think the reason Mando S3 had much less numbers is not entirely because of the boba Fett thing or the story of S3(plus you kinda have to watch the whole season first & see the whole story to eventually judge it, and most people just watch as episodes release and judge from there. The average person does not wait for the whole season to finish before deciding to watch). I think Disney just lost hype, and fails to keep viewers truly ENGAGED and interested. We went what, 3 or 4 YEARS between Mando season 2 and season 3? And we only got 8 episodes, 3 of which were filler - in a row I might add, which caused many to stop watching mid way through. The average mainstream person was watching Mando back in 2019, 2020, it was all the pop culture rage......then it took Disney somehow over 3 years to get us the 3rd season. I think those mainstream Mando fans who weren't really "star wars fans" just lost interest and forgot. In a world of entertainment where other TV shows give us a minimum of 10 up to 16 or even 20 episodes per season EVERY SINGLE YEAR.......yeah Disney is not gonna compete well with them and capture the mainstream audiences releasing 6-8 episode seasons every 2 or 3 years.....Disney is basically making mini series with more than 1 season. It's like Disney spread themselves too thin, they couldn't find a winning formula so they just kept trying a bunch of different type of shows, and when one did okayz they kinda ignored it, and when another did okay they just built / branched off it (like boba fett being part of mando, and giving Ashoka her own show after she was in mando). It seems like Disney is making things up as they go. Like they eatched that George Lucas interview where he talks about how in episode 4 & 5 he actually made up a lot of the stuff on the go unplanned, same with the prequels...... difference is George ACTUALLY had a over plan for the story outlined, he had most major moments planned out, had almost everything planned out, he just altered things during filming if he thought it was better than the outline, he improvised on small things because he spent so much time planning tge big things. Disney has no resl overall plan for the overall story as a whole, they are making it up as they go, and theyve spread themselves too thin. Disney needs to hire more people or dedicate themselves to 2 or 3 shows max, put all their effort there, and give us enough content there......like a new season every year......like how literally every single other tv show franchise does except star wars....

Sadly, the upcoming slate doesn't look promising. Skelton Crew looks like another kid-focused show filmed in The Volume. The Rey movie is a project no one asked for, and seems built on studio inertia more than anything else. The Mando & Grogu movie feels like a generic project birthed in a desperate committee meeting two days before announcement. And the Filoni movie, coming after the disappointing Ahsoka and Mando s3, will probably be more uninspired sludge. There are so many starting points. That’s for Lucasfilm to decide, but fans have wanted live action Old Republic for decades now. It’s beyond time for it. There’s so much potential for good storytelling and so many awesome characters. They could tell those stories for years. Now if they don’t do Old Republic, they need to retcon the sequels and build up to the Thrawn trilogy with a recast Luke, Leia, and Han. Then move on the New Jedi order novels and adapt them. They could even start right after Endor with the Rogue Squadron books. I wouldn’t even mind if they adapted those old Star Wars legacy comics. If done right it would be cooler to have a Yoda series following him from childhood to grandmaster. It could show him overcoming the sorrow of outliving all his friends and fellow Jedi. Each season could be around 100 years later with a new supporting cast, having a new supporting cast every season would really put us in Yoda's robes. Eventually they could introduce a Jedi Wookie, and since Wookies can live up to around 400 years, Yoda can finally have a friend that will last and can kind of relate to him. But maybe he would die at around 100-200 years too young than average and dealing with that loss and realization that he will probably never have someone constant in his life would be one of his greatest challenges. Well i just realize i forgot about Yaddle, but you get the gist of it and could probably work her in there somewhere.

That would make for an awesome show. The idea of outliving most of the people around you, seeing historical figures and seeing how they are viewed by future generations vs. How they actually were(and how each successive generation may change their perspective.), and how some group can rise and become all powerful in one century, and fall just as quickly in the next. Maybe even playing with how quickly time moves in show by making characters age more quickly during uneventful, peaceful periods, kinda mirroring how in real life how your mind needs events to hang memories on or else it becomes a mush that went by like a second. So much you could do with Yoda or Elves in middle earth, but modern writers just suck. As for characters lasting for multiple seasons we already have robots and you could just use or invent or aliens that last longer than humans

Here's the thing... and it's why "brand" matters so much... if we were somehow back in time before the release of Return of the Jedi, and we saw a preview where Palpatine cackled and said that "It isn't about good and evil, it's about power and who gets to wield it" I don't believe any of us would have had an issue because, way back when in the 80s, we'd know that this wouldn't be the perspective of the movie. It would be the perspective of one very evil character. The "bad guy". (Remember Vader telling Luke to join him so they could bring an end to the destructive conflict? Pretty sure how that would have turned out...). But in 2024, given who runs STAR WARS now, given the people behind the ACOLYTE, given the themes being raised in all sorts of interviews meant to promote the series? Um... wouldn't bet on it. And that doubt, right there, IS the issue. The series may be great, I have no idea yet. But am I optimistically "all in" the way I once would have been? No, and in my mind, with reason.

When I originally saw the trailer, I only had storyline/plot/lore critics against what I saw. Then I saw Angry Joe's reaction to the trailer, and Joe tried pushing back against the "anti-white male" claims and woke claims against the show, and I realized there are only 2 white males that are not protrayed as a bad character in the trailer. Obviously, that is not indicitive of the entire show, there very well could be more white males in the show, but the trailer shows a few dozen various charcters and all except 2 of them are minorities and or women. I'm not going to stand on a hill and claim "woke" or "racism", but knowing Disney's past and overwhelming anti-white male propaganda with other IPs over recent years, I can't help but feel this is another anti-white male show or at the very least, an anti-male show considering almost every single main character is a woman. Regardless of that, it's still an absolute slap in the face to fans that Disney is just completely ignoring the pre-established lore of Star Wars that the sith have not been seen in over 1,000 years. If we want Disney to clean house, get a new CEO, trash can their "Agenda," and FIRE Kennedy and her minion Headland. We the people must go Cold Turkey on Disney. The Parks, Merchandise, Disney +, etc. As long as the money flows, so too does the crap!

Genuinely don't understand what's there to be so emotional about. I couldn't care less about this show after seeing the trailer. I felt nothing. So seeing someone genuinely mad over it is baffling to me. It's like being angry at a cloud. Like what is it gonna do? Why even care lol

TLJ killed Star Wars it will never recover. Some wounds don’t heal. It could’ve been saved if Disney immediately admitted their mistake and fixed it but instead they doubled down on their ideology and politics. People don’t want to be told how to think and feel we want good storytelling.

Oh please, even if they did apologize it still would be the same outcome. Your wounds healing is good shows and products afterwards.

People are tired of girlbosses. We say since the beginning, write compelling, interesting characters that happen to be female. People don't care about the new stuff anymore, and those who will support anything Disney will support it no matter how bad it is.

Bottom line, this isn't gonna be a Star Wars show. It's gonna be a gay space Matrix knock-off wrapped in a SW skin!

The widespread criticism seems to come down to three points: 1. Disney has a quality problem, and this show doesn't look like it will reverse that; 2. it will be too woke; and 3. it's going to heavily criticize the Jedi, rather than show them as the heroes we want them to be. And I have to say, even as someone who is left-leaning and likes morally gray stories, I have to agree with these points. DEI efforts are fine, but they should never take priority over good story. And the Jedi have suffered enough, dammit. Yes they got outplayed by Palpatine, but that doesn't make them terrible or incompetent. Don't forget, they successfully kept the peace for 1000 generations. I hope we're wrong about this show. Honestly, I thought the trailer looked pretty good. But man, outside of Andor, it feels like Disney is mostly pumping out crap these days, and I've got a bad feeling about this.

A good point, dood. I have heard of fans that think of the Jedi and what they stand for as the main appeal, to such a degree that they'd put down "Jedi" when filling out forms as their official "religion". Stories that question their beliefs and moralities can work, but I really feel that should not be the norm. Also I don't trust anyone on this writing team to pull it off.

I no longer care what George Lucas thinks or has said, or will have to say he’s given up on SW as well. He’s backing this crap. The George Lucas I would have listened to doesn’t actually exist anymore.

As fair as I can be here, I'm apprehensive. I genuinely want Star Wars to be great and something I can share with my kids and nieces and nephews. But as of lately it's been too hit or miss for me to be confident in that. Plus all the red flags behind the scenes, Disney's recent "not-so-secret-gay-agenda," and the numerous examples of Disney heads not understanding the Force or the philosophy of our main Force wielding sides (the Jedi and the Sith), I have little hope for this series. Hopefully, it'll be an amazing well written space epic. Realistically, it's just going to be a train wreck used to deliver heavy handed messages that have no place in or outright contradict Star Wars and will further divide and kill the fan base.

The trailer is one minute, 45 seconds long.. yet somehow manages to show a *single* white male character during its run time (a man recoiling in fear/ being manipulated w/ the Jedi mind trick) Just such a weird move, financially - considering that's the #1 fan base for this entire franchise.. do they WANT this to fail ?

I think a lot of us have just given up at this point. Ive come to accept that this isn’t the Star Wars I knew and loved. The people who own it don’t care enough to get it right. They just see the franchise as an easy way to make money.
