I have used that tool, I've used cheap quality ones that don't work as good as better quality ones,but it's a nut splitter, it's purpose is to bust the nut,do it once and it splits it,turn it around and cut the nut in two pieces, but usually the bolt is junk afterwards

I have used a few different brands of this tool lisle and few higher end versions there an automotive nut cracker you use it to cut 2 different sides of a nut problem. With them is the bolt is usually junk and not save able afterwards they do come in handy i would say the cheaper ones don't last there not hardened there kinda soft the good ones work like a charm though @Redemption Garage

It’s a nut splitter not a bolt bitter, it could be used for that but it’s definitely not designed for that, it’s designed to split your nut in half when it’s damaged, not for bolts

Bill Lee nailed it,its a nut splitter, I've had one for 30 plus years

@@huntley513 Yup I've had one for 30 years also. Used it about fifteen times as a nut splitter when my rounded fastener tools would not do the job with no damage to any threads. I have never used it to remove a bolt.

As others have stated this is not for taking off a nut but rather that it bites into a nut and splits it in half.

More for splitting nuts in half not remove bolts but if you had the extra room it could possibly get a stuck or rounded off bolts out but primarily to split stuck nuts in half.

Looks like it could be a useful tool for sure. Thanks for the video brother.

Its primary use is to split worn nuts... break em right off... you don't have to twist it one way or the other...but the secondary use is the way you showed it...👍.. I have used it to split a nut off of a stud and it worked great I have a used 1 in 20 years though there is a lot of options but a doesn't hurt to have it in the tool Box

if used right it will not damage the bolt, the nut should split long beforethe tool makes contact with the bolt. once the nut splits it can usually spin the nut off by hand

It looks useful, but with plenty of stipulations. Gotta have room for the head, room to get it over the head, and room to turn the entire thing.

I've had one of those for years. I haven't used it very often but enough that it still occupies a place in the toolbox. It has it's place but admittedly if something happened to it I'm not sure I'd justify buying another one.

I mean no disrespect but this is absolutely not the intended use for this tool. It is designed to split nuts that are frozen to the bolt. The review of the castle nut is what it’s designed to do. It’s a bad review because it didn’t do its job, which is split the nut
@RedemptionGarage

I dont like to use the tool to split nuts because of the castle nut review but I get what you mean

I believe you are using this tool the wrong way. I believe the tool is designed to split the nut not to bite the bolt head.

This tool is useful for splitting nuts, but not for removing rounded off bolts. Use the tool for what it's designed for and it'll last a while, use it for rounded bolt heads and I can promise you're going to have a busted tool, and very possibly, if you're not wearing safety gear, injuries.
