Summers can get very hot which can present both advantages and challenges to survival in this rugged terrain. Warm nights mean that a shelter becomes less important but the scorching hot days and lack of rain make dehydration a real threat. There are also more venomous creatures lurking at this time of year such as rattlesnakes, scorpions and spiders so extra care must be had when climbing over rocks and boulders.
In this video I do a 24-hour journey to explore this area and I bring very little with me. I eventually run out of water and rely on the sour berry of the sugar bush to help relieve my thirst. This primitive wilderness experience taught me new lessons and showed me amazing sights. I hope you enjoy as much as I did.
