Welcome to the Nene Valley Railway’s Railcar Rover with the Pacer.
In 2021, Class 143 Pacer 143602 arrived at NVR and work begun right away. Wider foot boards were fitted to help accommodate with the European wider loading gauge. Meaning passengers won’t have to take such a massive step when getting on and off the Pacer. Other minor problems were also solved like a couple of issues with the electric’s I believe.
The Pacer was originally scheduled for the 21st Jan 2023 but this didn’t go ahead and Helga & Hagar was used instead (Full Video: • Nene Valley Railway Re... )
After a test run on 26th Jan 2023 it was decided that 143602 will be scheduled to run on the Saturday.
On Saturday 28th January 2023, the pacer took to the rails on her first public service. The orange railcar timetable was being used which saw 4 full return trips of the line including Yarwell with the first departure from Wansford at 10am.
After the guards got to grips with working the electric doors it was like a well oiled machine.
It was certainly an experience riding on a Pacer and yes it is incredibly bumpy, I couldn’t imagine what it would be like going even faster than we were at 25mph.
Surprisingly the Pacer proved very popular, not only bringing in enthusiasts but tourists and families as well.
We travelled up and down the line a few times as well as walking from Peterborough Nene Valley to Overton For Ferry Meadows. Then walking into Ferry Meadows Nene Park for lunch and to look at the Miniature Railway. Unfortunately the miniature railway wasn’t very popular with only a few people travelling on it. But in the winter, it’s understandable.
Thanks for watching
