After the first six successfully fledged, the pair came back the following year to nest on her porch again. Pretty neat. @kimberlysevastyanenko3798 in part from the raptor rehabilitation center I visited where they had a Hawk who had been found as a chick by a young boy that decided to try to raise the chick himself and fed it only chicken meat. The Hawk grew up deformed and was never able to fly and they kept the bird and trained it and kept it as healthy as possible, and it was used for demonstrations and educational purposes to discourage people from doing this. I have also known people who are licensed falconers. I work with animals, and I know that the muscle meat does not contain all the nutrients that a bird would get if they ate a whole animal, like a rodent, reptile, insect, or bird. The organs, entrails, skin, and bones contain a lot of nutrients that are not found in muscle meat. Omnivores like us can eat only muscle meat because we get our nutrients like vitamin C and others from eating plants. Carnivores get those same nutrients from eating things like the stomach and stomach contents of the animals they eat, and by eating the organs, brains, skin, and chewing on or eating the bones. Animal nutrition is not a common knowledge topic, but the information is easy to find if you look for it, or go to school for it like I did.

This was not helping, this was interference and ignorance. The fledglings were healthy without any help. Chicken muscle meat is not a healthy diet for them and can cause rickets. Feeding the babies directly instead of leaving it outside the nest for the parents to feed to them was also bad, as these babies have now learned as one of their earliest lessons that humans provide food. This is a good way for them to starve to death or be killed when they are perceived as attacking a human when they grow up. Leave baby wild animals to be raised by their parents. Look, don't touch. And if you see an animal that may be injured or ill and needs help, call an expert at your local wildlife rehabilitation refuge.

Nope, this is interference and ignorance that could cause the death of these animals. Chicken muscle meat is not a complete diet food for these animals and can cause rickets. The babies need to eat their natural food, which would be whole rodents, reptiles, or small birds. There is nutrition in the other parts of the animal that is not in the muscle. Also, teaching baby birds of prey that humans provide food is unsafe for the birds and humans. Leave wildlife alone and let them raise their own babies. The fledglings were perfectly healthy without help from the human. If they wanted to help they could possibly have put some dead feeder mice on the patio where the parent birds could get it and feed it to the babies, bu5 chicken meat is not part of their diet, and feeding the babies directly is not good for them learning to be self sufficient wild animals.

What lucky & privileged people you are, to gain the trust of these beautiful birds to the point that they weren't afraid to raise their young in your home! What a wonderful thing to have happen!!

Animals used to be like this around our house, squirrels wiuld come up on our porch and my mother would feed them, they KNEW she was a good person and so was the REST of the family. MOST animals knew our house was an animal safety zone and would bring friends and family!
