In addition to that, some can also speak Cantonese, Hakka, Hokkien, Teochew etc..And that isn't even mentioning the Indians who may speak Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Urdu etc.... 🤔 And of course, there's Arabic too for the Malays

Hi Flora & Note, FYI, the reason Ipoh coffee is known Ipoh White Coffee not because of the milk but the technique of roasting the beans. Ipoh white coffee is beige because of its distinctive roasting, brewing and stirring techniques. In Malaysia, “white coffee” just means a lighter colour of the roast. Compared to the traditional Malaysian black coffee roasted with margarine and sugar, the white coffee is roasted only with margarine gives it a lighter colour. We have to best aromatic coffee. I grew up drinking it as a kid. Kopi O= Black coffee with sugar unless you say 'no sugar' , Kopi =Coffee, condensed milk n sugar. Next visit you both should visit, Thean Chun and Khong Heng for the home made caramel custard, satay, chee cheong fun(local cheong fun) and blanched cuttlefish and water spinach served with special sauce. Enjoy Ipoh😁

Chinese who came to Malaysia more than 100 years ago were mostly Cantonese & Hokkien, some Hakka & Teochew and other ethnics too. Ipoh have various dialects groups besides Cantonese like the Hokkiens, Hakkas, Hock Chews, Hainanese and others. I am Hokkien, I grew up speaking my dialect mixed with English and bahasa. Watching TVB Cantonese shows and speaking with my classmates and vendors really helps my Cantonese. Sadly, the younger generation mostly speaks Mandarin now, hardly uses Cantonese. 😕 I still use Cantonese to speak to the vendors. Older vendors loves when young people speak their dialect.

Actually, the home or cradle of the white coffee is the cafe smack opposite to Nam Heong known as Sin Yoon Loong. Unfortunately, SYL have been very complacent and quite contented with the brisk business they've been doing for generations out of that sole and only location. They've been approached by interested parties to take their business down the franchise route or otherwise extend their footprint but they've somehow not seen the potential of it or, as mentioned earlier, totally contented with what they have. As a result, Nam Hong/Old Town Coffee stole a march on them and, sadly, everyone beats a path to this Nam Heong shop thinking it's the birthplace of the Ipoh White Coffee.

Hi Flora & Note, the Nam Heong white coffee is more towards sweeter taste. You guys should try the "Kedai Kopi Sin Yoon Loong" white coffee (just opposite of Nam Heong White Coffee shop) which has stronger & less sweet taste white coffee. On the other hand, the White-Flesh Pomelo is mainly only sweet. You guys should try the Red-Flesh Pomelo instead. it has sweet & sour taste which taste even better. Also, it taste good too when eat it cold
