Absolutely loved your reaction to this. You want layers? Well, you found the right artist. Ren is different. I believe he's a once in a lifetime kind of artist. On top of that, he's just a good person. I'm here for this journey of you diving into his catalogue. You've earned my sub. I suggest following this one up with Sick Boi as it directly relates to this song.. I haven't even finished watching your reaction yet but I just wanted to edit my comment to stay that you definitely hit the nail on the head about his medical condition. He has Lyme's disease but went misdiagnosed for about 10 years and was prescribed medications that in the end did more damage than good. He's the currently getting special treatments in that seemed to be helping him somewhat but they are not a cure. This song in particular went viral and over the last year I've watched as his fan base has grown and have watched him show the world what is like to be humble and kind regardless of his newfound fame. I can't remember who the original person is but ran quoted this person and said that a rising tide lifts All ships. That is what he has done for no reason other than to help complete strangers. The community that he has grown is like none I've ever seen before. Welcome.

Welcome! I like to think that Ren's last gift is the community. This song is special, and it rings out from a place of chronic illness. The chronic illness community is often called invisible, because of fear and stigma. Illness is not something people want to discuss. But it's necessary. People need to understand the difficulty we go through. Ren has not only provided a voice. He's inspired others to be voices. The necessary conversations are happening. We can support each other, and won't be so alone. The rising tide IS raising all ships. And it's beautiful to watch.

@@nm44Sergie not true. It is impossible to shoot a wide, hand held close shot and half a second later have a full body shot without being two takes. Absolutely impossible. After 40+ years of shooting I can guarantee that. Also they insert some cut scenes where Ren is not wearing a mic so the mic appears and disappears multiple times in the same 30 second piece of footage and then there’s the gown length variations which are also other shoots. Happy to send you the photo proof if you still need to believe this is a composite of the three cameras and one take.

@@nm44Sergie The audio is one take, live and lightly balanced in post from miked guitar, lapel mike, camera mike and perhaps the corner mikes seen in Chalk-Outlines. (with the talk at the end, iirc from a different take) The video is spliced from multiple cameras covering the live performance, but it does seem as if there are a few brief segments spliced in from a different one-take and synced to the continuous audio track... his hem line does a few things that don't seem congruent with a single performance.

Here is some additional information on Ren's story that I gathered from old newspaper interviews, articles, and Ren's public livestreams and posts. A handful of people frequently post an earlier version of my comment to various reactions that they copied and pasted verbatim, so if this is a repeat just ignore this comment. I keep editing the information, as needed, and have removed details about Ren that some found to be too personal, such as his full name and D.O.B. All the information here was gathered exclusively from sources Ren personally approved for public release. Ren is a Welsh musician/independent artist/producer, self-taught multi-instrumentalist. He pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, Ren began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures, which eventually caused him to discontinue his studies and return home. In addition, Ren was signed by Sony Records in 2010 and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point that he was unable to go on; consequently, his contract with Sony was dissolved. Ren would later relocate to Brighton. Ren's illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led him to experience psychosis and develop PTSD. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure. Ren is in Calgary, Canada for at least six months (Summer of 2023), undergoing treatments such as IV therapy and other interventions five days a week, as well as surgeries (wisdom tooth removal and cavitation surgery). His Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder (MCAD), which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, and adrenals as well as his bones/joints. Hence, Ren is receiving additional treatments for this previously undiagnosed condition. He recently took a break from treatments and returned to the UK to visit family and friends, and to produce some very ambitious musical projects to be released soon. Let's keep supporting Ren as he undergoes his treatments. Check out and subscribe to his channel; if you are a content creator, ask your audience to subscribe to Ren. Ren's YT channel just surpassed 1 million subscribers. and his videos have garnered millions and millions of views. Listen to some of his earlier work, like and comment on his performances, and let's lift Ren's spirits. If you are a believer, pray for him. Ren is an artist with something to say to the world, and his work is important in these troubling times. Someone has finally created a Wikipedia page for Ren, so there is additional information available.

Everything he’s put out has substance, is creative, and just sounds pleasing to the ear. His collaborations are all next level good. And the band he was in, The Big Push, they’re also super talented in their own right. It’s been a fun journey thus far. Not only Ren went through hell because of his illness, as you might have already read in many comments. But also, he went through a lot of trauma. I think one of the worst things that happened to him was his friend Joe who gave up living when Ren was 20yo. Ren was less than 5 min late to save this friend from jumping to the bridge. The body was never found. He wrote a lot of songs about this, he even has a dedicated album to his late friend. It's called Freckled Angels. As you said, he has many layers of talent, but he also has many layers of suffering, sadly...😢 He even has a video where he was about to throw the white frag... it's an extremely strong and sad video where he was down to tears explaining how he couldn't take it any longer and that he just wanted to get over with all the pain. And he is still able to be so positive and so uplifting. He is different! He is Ren!

Thank you for your reaction. I appreciate your thoughtful understanding and analysis of Renn and his journey. He is struggling with Lyme disease and his misdiagnosis and treatsment which caused very bad results. He is still in treatment in Canada. but is working hard to improve his recovery. He really is an amazing human being and an artist .

Loved your reaction to this masterpiece! It was filmed in mostly one take with 3 cameras. The only part that was separately filmed was the handheld bit at the end, which was only because the other cameras would have been visible. Ren is an amazing artist and a wonderful person. His fan community is one of the most supportive and positive of any musician ever. His music is well worth looking into! Looking forward to following you down the rabbit hole ❤

If you want the penultimate of layers and storytelling then Ren is your guy. I'd recommend you hit the Tale of Jenny and Screech trilogy next and level up. :)

Instant sub! Prepare yourself for the subs from the RENegades. We love watching people find him for the first time and go down this rabbit hole of music that he has. He is a genre bender. He is from Wales, but moved to Brighton after his best friend, unalived himself by jumping off of a bridge. Ren was bitten by a tick and for the next 10 years he was missed diagnosed as having a mental disorder when he actually had Lyme’s disease. They prescribed him so many of the wrong medication’s that he developed psychosis. He is currently in Canada trying to reverse some of that damage medically. So now he makes his music to bring awareness to mental illness, violence and world corruption. Don’t get me wrong. He definitely does songs just for fun without any deep meaning. He is a genre bender. He’s also excellent doing live street performances with his band called The Big Push. Be careful you might become a Renegade with the rest of us. If you want more of his storytelling, then definitely do the Tale of Jenny and Screech (full version). People call it bardcore. Some of his deeper songs are Chalk Outlines, Crutch, How to be Me, and For Joe. If you want to see him rap, then I would suggest The Hunger, Genesis, Power, Losing it, Fisher Retake and Murderer.
