"'Cause it's time to bring the fire down. Bridle all this indiscretion. Long enough to edify, and permanently fill this hollow" What a great song talking the hollowness people live with. Like this song is about a woman who feels hollow inside and tries to fill it with sex only for the relief to last a couple minutes. Same goes for people who use drugs.... they use them to try to feel good feelings even if artificial. But all you're doing is making the hollowness grow. I'd know, it's getting hungry.

It was January and we were on a highway with extreme fog so we could only go about 20 miles per hour, I was getting over being extremely sick but my friend popped this in the cd player and I was absolutely blown away. I had heard tool and I was already a huge fan but this was something different. Something with a different type of emotion behind it. This song reminds me of my leap into adulthood with no plan, no desire for one, no worries. Funny thing is, I actually understand the song now and I didn't before.

What’s great about Billy Howerdell is that he’s not very riff oriented. He mostly plays higher up on the guitar neck for the guitar harmonies and leaves more space for the bass and drums and also Maynard to fill the bottom end so it sticks out more . But when he does drop in for more heavy riffs it sounds more powerful.

Do you know the meme where someone plays a single note, or two, or three from the beginning of a song that is iconic to a certain demographic? The title is something like, "How do you traumatize/frustrate/trigger a ~label~?" When you let the song play out, let the silence happen... then I heard the first two notes of Passive. How do you trigger a ~me~? That's how. Whelp... guess I'm know what I'm listening to next. :P

Still here. Hello Geebz; can you give any detail on the key he's singing in? It sounds like its a different key, with the 2nd note coming in flat, like he's singing minor key but making chords on 2/4/6 be the base chord instead of 1/3/5. Lends a vibe somewhere between sad and sinister to an otherwise pretty piece, but I don't really know what I'm hearing.

Nice to hear your perspective on it. This has always been my least favourite APC album out of the first 3 as I only like one song on the whole album , "Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums". It's good to hear what someone actually likes about songs from this album because most of my friends who like it just said "Eh you don't get it, APC are genius" and don't really talk about the elements of what they like properly. I'll have to relisten to this album now!
