The drama, the suspense! Also...that smell. I’ve been off the farm for quite a few years, but as soon as you mentioned the stench of rotting grain, the memory of that particular odour came rushing back to me.

Its somthing I think that gets burnt into your very soul that smell....
@lukestrawwalker
4 жыл бұрын
@@SouthSaskFarmer1 Absolutely!!! Gawd I remember that stench... When I used to gin with this one old man he let some guys store grain sorghum in a pile behind the gin and haul it off later, load it with front end loader into the trucks... of course they left probably 100 bushels or more on the ground and after that stuff got rained on by several 2-3 inch rains, in 100 degree heat you can imagine the stink... one time it was just seething with maggots... blah!!! I attended a wild hog control meeting one time and they were discussing trapping strategies for wild hogs and bait... turns out the best bait for them the guy told us get a 5 gallon pail fill it up with grain sorghum turn the garden hose on it fill the bucket with water and let that grain rot in there for about 3-4 days, then dig a hole in the middle of the trap and pour that stinking mess in there, and cover it with dirt. Apparently them wild hogs just LOVE that stinking filthy sh!t and will dig it up and eat it like candy-- get the whole herd in there and spring the trap and you're done... Later! OL J R :)

I have that same plastic silencer kit in the feeder house of my 1660 and it bulged up in the centre too. Eventually wore to the point the bars peeled a big chunk up and jammed the chain. I installed the plastic 20 years ago to cover up the holes worn in the feeder house bottom.

Have ran harvest services feeder chain for 25 years. Would never go back to a steel bar chain. Wore out first chain and kept original bars on new chains. Wore out another set of chains on same bars. Then replaced with new chains and bars. Bought second combine and first thing we did was put the harvest services feeder chain in it. With worn bars would have to put front drum in lowest position when starting wheat until feeder house got shined up then could raise back up and would feed fine.

A little question for all the viewers. What was the worse thing you ever put through your combine? My dad picked up a cultivator shovel years ago with his 402 ihc and it made it into the cylinder.
