Short film exploring the striking interior of St John's Lane Church, Dublin 8.
John's Lane Church opened in 1874 on the site of St. John's Hospital
(founded in 1182). It is located on Thomas Street, Dublin, close to the centre of the medieval city, and is served by the Augustinian Order.
The church is officially named The Church of John the Baptist and St Augustine,
but, to Dubliners, it is affectionately known as St John's Lane.
The stained glass in the apse is by Mayer of Munich. The windows are by
Harry Clarke, John Earley & Sons and Michael Healy.
John Ruskin (1818-1900), the writer, critic, artist & philosopher, who heralded
the Gothic Revival in Britain, described the church as "a poem in stone".
Thanks to the friendly and helpful staff of St John's for allowing me to film in the church.
