The 10min daily decluttering is something I’m going to try. It seems like a little commitment but will compound over time. That combined with everything in its right place & one in one out rules I already follow should do me well & actually be sustainable.

I actually never gave much thought of which kind of "clutter personality" I could be. Actually, realizing what holds me back sometimes is very helpful. And I like the 10min tango. Been doing that, but naming it like this makes it sound like more fun;) Thanks for this video! Make me think about some more stuff, as usual. Like your simple, educative, and positive style. Peace!

I decluttered Facebook, Twitter & Instagram. It’s great not having to look at everyone’s ‘lives’ online or feeling the need to share mine. I don’t need to know what you’ve eaten today, how much sleep you did or didn’t get or what your child got up to today. I can just be me 😋

I am telling you... I so need your counsel! I have some serious serious clutter to tackle and your calm manner and very organized and helpful ideas are a blessing to me. I have watched so many different clutter videos but none has helped me like yours. You have a gift for teaching and encouraging. I feel better already and I have only watched 3 of your videos. It would seem that the concept of “everything has a home” is a known, common sense, everyone does/knows that…but if that were true we would not have clutter in our lives. There are some (my darling husband) who will circumvent this rule and buy another shipping container but for most of is this rule should keep us in check. I like to begin with this rule and if my “home” for an item has no space-something needs to go right then and there.👍🏻 Thanks for your calm, practical reminders about what is truly important in our lives.🙏🏻

Hey Ron, loved these practical tips! I have a system where I choose one room of my home each week to deep clean and declutter throughout the week and just keep moving around my house. This helps me to consistently declutter! I agree about the mail - I will only get my mail if I have time to deal with it right then. Even still - sometimes things pile up because I don't know what to do with it so I put it in a pile for my husband to look at later - which seems to never happen haha! I just wanted to tell you that you are such a great communicator! I always enjoy your videos! Thanks for sharing!😊

I found out the value of the stuff one keeps when I had to close up my Mom's home in a month. No one wanted anything of hers. I had to trash most of it. I lived in a room my space was limited. This got me thinking of my stuff. Will anyone want it when I DDS? I asked around in the family and that went south. Now I have to let go as it no longer has value to anyone.
@jenniferkohler5396

My way of dealing with sentimental items is mostly a thought process. The sentimental feelings are in me, NOT the item. I take a picture of it and then move it out of my home. I feel the feelings associated with the item when I look at it and a picture will replicate those feelings. I do have a few limited items that I have not gotten rid of yet that are in this sentimental category but the goal is to move them along within the next 6 months. If I don't (or can't find the inner strength) to do so, I take another pic of it, make sure it is packed away, and then in 3 months I reevaluate.
@rozennrd4802
Жыл бұрын
When thinking about sentimental decluttering, I have a rule : as long as things I inherited or things that were gifted to me make me fuzzy and warm when looking at them, and/or I use them, and/or knowing I own it brings me peace, I get to keep it. That way, I get to keep the stuff that matters to me, and donate the remaining. I have a lot of hobbies, a lot of stuff I like to do, my interior is NOT minimalistic (I have several dozens of books that have followed me in every single one of my appartments, even the 9m². I just love being surrounded by books and being able to pick up a book I already know and read it. I love being able to recommand books to people and say "hey, I got it, I can lend it to you if you want". I also paint and crochet, and both these hobbies are NOT minimalistic. The important thing about owning a thing or not I find is for me : does it bring me joy, do I use it, does it bring me peace. If I answer yes to at least two of the questions, then it stays. otherwise, it's gone. Sentimental items I don't use do give me peace and joy, so they can stay. The pipe I used to smoke with my grandfather stays, even though I smoke like once every two or three years. The stuff that bring me joy but I don't use and don't bring me peace, such as clothes I like but don't wear, gone.

The 10 minutes a day idea makes it very doable. My key words are keep - donate - recycle - trash. Trash should be the smallest pile. Use cardboard boxes, not plastic bags. Bags aren't recyclable and things break. Have boxes ready to go out the door when your kids/friends/family arrive to get their stuff. Broken items can be repaired. Many counties have free repair services staffed by volunteers.

Think of a factory making 1000s of a particular gadget. You buy one of these gadgets and use it a couple of times and then forget it. After a while you get rid if it and it goes to landfill. It lasts for years in landfill. The 1000s of this gadget are streaming to landfill via a short detours in people's drawers. For the planets sake we need to aquire fewer gadgets. Think about the "end of life" fate of everything you buy. Everything you own. What has become of your grandparents or great grandparents possessions? How much "stuff" do you own compared to how much they owned? Decluttering is great. Avoiding clutter in the first place is better.

“Would I trade my inner peace for it?” I’ve been struggling with trying to declutter for over 20 years and I’ve watched more videos and shows, listened to more podcasts, and read more books on the subject than I could ever begin to count, but that question … I felt like an earthquake shook through my whole body when you asked that one question. Wow. Wow, wow, wow. Just … wow! By the way, I don’t know why I’ve never come across your channel before - well, yes, I do, the stupid algorithm that barfs up videos/channels with the highest views, not necessarily ones that would be most beneficial - but after watching only two of your videos so far, I’ve already gotten several great tips for ways to look at decluttering from angles I’ve never heard anyone else talk about. Things like core values and inner peace. I’ve heard plenty of influencers talk about asking whether an ITEM brings value to my life, but not whether it fits with my personal CORE VALUES. And plenty talk about decluttering to bring more calm into my life, but they’re talking about it from the perspective of calm surroundings, not INNER peace. I’m just now realizing many if the things I’ve been keeping because I thought they brought me JOY have been terrible in terms of inner peace. I’ve stressed about whether I should let them go so many times, they bring me no inner peace at all. None. I never thought about it that way before! This feels like a real game-changer for me. Thank you! ☀️💛

@@RonaldLBanks Thanks, your doing good work. I work at it by day and I stop buying stuff unless it's a excellent deal and can easily be sold for same price or dubble. Other random stuff I have been keeping gets smashed to bits and put in the bin.

Nice work here Ron! Such an inspiration. I especially liked the advice where keeping an item should preserve my inner peace... to me this is comforting in that it erases any guilt associated with parting with anything.

Exactly! Guilt is a really big reason why we tend to hold onto things we don’t need. I’ve talked about this a lot in other videos I’ve done. I’m glad this part resonated with you Gordon! Keep growing!

I’m two years into my journey. I find it frustrating when I go through and only find one or two things to part with per section however that really shows the progress I’ve made. When I am feeling stuck (which will be later today) I’ll be trying this new tool. Thank you! You always give me great advice and fresh perspective ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I have a paper recycling bin right at my mail drop-slot in my garage. About 90% of my mail goes right into it, I don’t bring anything into the rest of my house unless it requires some action from me. There’s also a trash bin, for those extremely annoying cases where they put a plastic card, or other non-recyclable item like adhesive stickers, in the letter, you can usually feel them. We can’t control a lot of our junk mail, but they should make doing this illegal. In the UK, you can post a “No Junk Mail” sign and the postal carrier will comply. I wish we had that in the US. I also hate how bills come with extra sheets and “offers” from people selling junk.

Giving everything a home is so powerful. A few years ago I helped my aunt clean up her house (she's a hoarder, no exaggeration, and yes she got mental health help too). You mentioned forks and spoons having an obvious home in your kitchen drawer, but for her, that wasn't even true. Every single item she had floated around to any free space. After throwing away the garbage and spending weeks and weeks decluttering duplicates of everything, we found homes for all the items. I think that lifted a burden off of her where now she doesn't have to think every time she needs to get something or put something away.

Am glad I watched you’re videos honestly this whole thing is brilliant when I get rid of stuff or donate or recycle etc etc it even makes the house look more clean and simple I could really make use of the extra space I freed up and it might help me with my studies & tasks

It goes much further that just the physical stuff we see. We also have to deal with the mental and emotional side of life and clutter. I’m glad this conversation resonated with you my friend! Keep growing and if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask!

I love the simple steps you highlighted Ronald! I view clutter in 4 categories: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual and ask does it cultivate joy in my life? or have future or functional joy in my life?

You have such a nice calming voice and a way of explaining things in a beautiful way. I’m working on improving my clutter. So far, I’ve done okay, but these reminders are a good way to keep letting go of things that don’t serve a purpose. I’m still debating on getting rid of my Cabbage Patch Dolls. They’ve been in a storage box for many many years. I don’t play with them or display them. Any suggestions?

I de cluttered my shoes the other day. I had 5 donation bags. My husband was almost horrified that I was going to donate it all (because of the $ value) but I wasn’t using them🤷🏻♀️ why hang on to them? I’m also thinking about selling a big part of my big brand handbags. It’s too much shit. But this is still going through a detachment process. I know I want to but am not quite ready 😅 it’s also daunting to hunt down all the boxes and invoices for the sale. It will happen eventually. Probably during xmas break.

Mela- Great job! You may soon discover a deeper realization of who you are by not caring what others think. 😃 Their perceptions about what you own just won’t matter anymore. Start with one this week. Wishing you pure joy on your journey.

@@InfiniteMindset99 thanks! I already don’t care about what other people think of me 🤗 I consider my husband’s opinion but in the end it’s my stuff and he knows that.

I really do like de cluttering videos. I usually de clutter items from my wardrobe when I do the seasonal switch, from summer to winter. This year it is a little harder to do it because I am currently pregnant with my first child , and therefore had to buy new clothes. When I am back to my usual weight /build, I will be able to decide what to declutter and what not. I am going to hold on to some of my maternity clothes because we like to have a second baby in the near future. But when we are done having kids, I certainly will get rid of my maternity clothes. However I am de cluttering the rest of our home, ( at least my stuff), I have downsised my DVD collection to the items I know for sure I watch. The ones I do not watch anymore I put together in plastic bags, and I send a watts app message to family and friends to come and see if they like them and take them of my hands.
