That's a neat car. It's very much like the old TL-01 chassis which was extremely durable. Tamiya bodies are always very well done. You commented on the run time. If you put a good battery in a Tamiya car with a silver can motor they will run for a very long time. That's great for the kids. I know it's slow, but Ii thought it would roll over.

I built the MF01X among many other Tamiya kits. Although the chassis was not the most fun or pleasant to build (TL01 vibes ugh...) it's a surprisingly fun, capable chassis for on and off road, both in AWD and RWD. You make it RWD by removing the shaft and front dogbones, which also allows for some chassis trimming, to allow for more steering angle... Win win!). When fitting proper dampers, have a look at the asymmetrical droop due to the design of the arm clashing with the propshaft's cover. A real miss on Tamiya for not taking care of it, but nothing a few mins woth a file or a longer ball end can't fix. You'll understand when you see it😊
@Papinak2
10 ай бұрын
You can have more steering even with AWD, using CVDs. The biggest miss by Tamiya isnthat they tried to make an off-road chassis by mashing TL-01 and M-05 together. If they developed as a mini rally chassis from the start, it'd be better - ideally with M07/8 parts.
@YoShImUrA53
10 ай бұрын
@@Papinak2 I tried using the M08 for rallying and it was quite a disaster. Especially for how good the chassis is on high grip surfaces. I use CVDs on my MF01x. Quite a necessary upgrade. For sure, it was a compromise and a call back to TL01 (not sure about M05), but that doesn't take away of how well it performs. Still I'd rather have this than no AWD mini from Tamiya.
@Papinak2
10 ай бұрын
@@YoShImUrA53 I meant something like AWD M08 :) Longer arms help with off-road performance. Of course, it's better than no 4wd mini at all, and MF-01 has some nice improvements compared to TL-01, but they were so close to make it perfect by putting the motor lower in front of the rear axle and gearing more suitable for the small wheels.
@YoShImUrA53
10 ай бұрын
@@Papinak2 oh, no argument on the arms. I want to build an MB01 and see how well that is able to be turned into a rally machine. People in Japan have already made it AWD. M07/8 AWD would be cool, but probably too cramped for electronics, considering how Tamiya lays out these chassis.
@Papinak2
10 ай бұрын
@@YoShImUrA53 I've seen the MB-01, problem is that the drive shaft runs right through the battery compartment.. So it's either using shorty saddle lipo (which I couldn't find) or putting battery above the drive shaft like BT-01 did. Also, it seems that MB-01 has issue with suspension balls falling out of arms - not ideal for a rally chassis. I already converted MF-01 to mid motor and I believe that similar layout could be used on M-08 style chassis.
@angrymelon

I absolutely loved watching that thing bounce around. "Slow car fast" can be a surprising amount of fun! FYI, the Yaris body uses the long wheelbase MF01X, so you'll likely need to find the L drive-line.

I enjoy this series quite a lot. When I was a kid I always wanted a Tamiya or other RC car. The grasshopper was very popular. I was jealous of the kids whose parents had the extra cash and foolish decision-making skills to buy those for their children. I was in awe of how fast they were even on the grass or offroad conditions. A few years ago I bought my first RC car - a Traxxas Stampede 4x4, which is actually faster stock and better off road than all of those old Tamiya cars. And then I upgraded it to a LIPO system and Wow, I was hooked. I'm surprised that even the cheapy Walmart cars of today are better than the pro rc cars of the 90s. The cars you're featuring in this series are very interesting and it's fun to see you have fun with them. I'd like to see a video of how to clean RC cars after you've taken them through the mud. Do you have to take apart the gearing and re-grease them? How do you do that? I know it's different on every RC car, but it would be nice to see you do it on your chosen car. Keep having fun!

Couple that with losing job directly before the holiday and I feel beyond horrible not sure can provide for my family this Christmas.... Uhhhhhh....
