How far back does your family photo collection go?

I bought a Canon A1 with my first full time paycheck after school in 1984. But i have a few snapshots from before, plus many inherited photos from my parents.

I am 65, and have a nice digital collection of photos from the last 15+ years. The real collection are the film photos that i collected for the 25 years before that. And add to that the wonderful LARGE framed photos that came off of my parents' walls after they passed away. I would like to hear more about scanning those photos (especially the large ones) and incorporating those into the digital collection. And i would like to hear more about AI Tools that could really bring the scanned photos back to life. B&H, what scanners do you sell to pros that do the scanning work? And could you do a presentation on ingesting printed photos into one's digital collection. Peter, i loved your zoom interviews and how you assembled them to tell a story. I have a VHS tape of my wife's maternal grandparents sharing what their lives were like in their younger years. What a remarkable thing it would be to get that in my library. Thanks to all involved in putting together today's presentation. And i look forward to many more. All the BEST!

Hi, thank you, so glad you enjoyed it and found it helpful. I have scanned a lot of the older prints and slides my family had, and that I took before digital cameras. They are all part of my personal digital photo collection at this point, it is simply a matter of importing them into whatever catalog or photo library software you are using. The tricky part is making sure you change the date stamps of the scanned images so they reflect the actual, or close to the actual date they were originally taken, this way they will integrate correctly into the time line of your photo catalog. It sounds tricky but it's not. There are many types of scanners available, it depends on the media you are scanning (prints, negatives, slides, etc...) and how many you have. If it's a lot, you may find it better to have someone else do it, or some folks invest in what they call batch scanners for their prints, but they can be costly and take some time to learn. Hope that helps, good luck, and enjoy the ride. Peter
