Great video. Stonework is beautiful. The Lehigh Valley diamonds still on the bridge is really remarkable. 😮

Good evening Peter. I was tickled pink to see those diamonds painted on the bridge.

Another great catch Kevin....yes- Mike from Metrotrails sure does get around! He is knowledgeable and likes to share! We see some older PC and Conrail and B&M as well as NYNH&H bridge markings and signage from time to time here in the Northeastern reaches. I love the bevels of the old stonework as well! Cheers!

Thank you kindly Russ. I can find a Reading company stamp almost every where I go but the LV.... man that is something special!! I really need to get up your way and see all the goodies you guys have. I'm hoping to hit the Starrucca viaduct before the end of the month. That would be the farthest north I've been as far as youtube world goes. Have a great week Russ and thanks again.

Cool find, great to see it, haven't seen their logo in a while. Grew up in a "Valley town" and LV was stenciled or carved into everything. All gone now. P.s., you're one of the few channels that I'll watch a commercial that's longer than the video. Did look like a nice cruise ship though, high end luxury, no kids, no casinos, no all you can drink bars (no obnoxious drunks).

Good morning Ken, very nice to hear from you. While not originally from the Valley, I've spent a large portion of my adult life here. Anything and everything Valley is just the coolest. I was given a lead that there is another bridge in Pittston that has a diamond on so it looks like I'm going on a trip real soon. I appreciate you sticking through those commercials. While I have a great many fears, the ocean is my biggest. My wife is constantly asking to go on a cruise. NO THANK YOU lol. Flying is another but at least there are no leviathans waiting to eat me on a plane. I've got some video exploring the CNJ bridge connecting the old Ironton with the CNJ main coming out next. I know you're familiar with that one. Take care Ken.

Wow, that's really cool! I've ridden over that bridge dozens of times, but I've never been on the ground by it. That's so cool to see the LV logos still there.

Good morning Jamie. It's amazing how much we pass by or in this case pass over not realizing what is there. That's what makes this so much fun. The constant discovering of new things. We will do this till we are old and grey and still never see it all..And I'm okay with that. Have a wonderful week Jamie 😊

FWIW they call the corner stones the “quoins”. I don’t know why. It’s great to see the R&N hauling so much (profitable!) freight. It’s hard to figure why CONRAIL spun these lines off. The husband of a relative on my mother’s side was an Erie guy, then EL, then CONRAIL. He hung in there, saved his job and was moved to Philly with CONRAIL. He could lay out for you how two competing systems could have been created from the get-go, basically undoing the PC merger and then adding selected lines from the other railroads. A lot of miles and jobs would have been saved.

Good morning Bob. "quoins" That is definitely a word I have never heard before. Thank you for that one! I find myself wondering, of course with hindsight being 20/20, did Conrail do the right thing. I'm sure at the time this had to be done. The cost to maintain all the mileage they picked up must have been extraordinary. 50 years ago it probably seemed like a no brainer. Today it seems we could use some of these old beds. Light rail in some of the more densely populated areas would be helpful, I speculate. So many trucks on the road now as well. I'm very uneducated on the logistics of all this, however had the Penn Central merger received the money from the federal government that the airlines and highway systems were receiving we may have seen a much different outcome. Perhaps 50 years from now old grades that are trails now may become roads again. What do you think?
