I disagree. I think this movie was about a woman taking control of her own mortality. I thought having the main character of a survival movie be a terminal cancer patient was a really cool, unique idea. Sure, it was sad but not bleak.
@dervishhh4475
3 ай бұрын
Agreed. And it was about her grace and strength of character staring down the barrel of death. She even gained a follower in Quinn's character who clearly took one look at her and decided she was his best chance at survival. She had nothing to lose and didn't squander the opportunity to make her death mean something.

I actually think this movie was REALLY well done. There are some fantastic shots (I'm still thinking of the puppet show scene) and to me the film had many positive messages within, specifically with how sometimes people who have already given up find a reason to keep going. Their friendship was beautiful and emotional, and also a reminder that we are all humans trying to survive and that we must look after one another.

Something very hard to do, imo, would be to get through the barrier of non-verbal communication, that you would (need to) cry to show empathy for the victim? So, in that regard, the viewers/audience could either be glad it was a "great story" that made them cry 😅*or* dislike that the plot, made them "depressed" when there wasn't any justifiable reason for that in this scenario🤨

As a person who absolutely adores films that are bleak and wallow in misery or deal with very dark subject matter, this seems right up my alley! I absolutely hate most comedy films especially with modern Gen Z humor as it seems like genuine character driven humor is almost non-existent. With most humor now being either satirical or woke and agenda driven, almost all comedy films seem like drivel these days to me. But movies that focus on death or are very existential and so profoundly sad and moving that the tears flow almost involuntarily are always reliable comfort food. Can't wait to check this out!

I think this movie does let you root for her to survive because you want to her choose her own death. I've had multiple close family members die of cancer. I've visited them in hospice care. "Why couldn't she be the final girl?" Why did she have to be? Sam's motivation throughout the movie was to go home. To literally (and figuratively) get pizza. Her arc by the end saw her coming to terms with what was happening to her, find peace with it, and go out on her own terms, whilst also saving someone who had in turn helped her. It's a beautiful story, and it's sad that you would rather just have a trope.

Just saw the film today, and I really enjoyed the movie! It is bleak, but I consider that a theme of the entire series. The multiple commentaries on communication are very nuanced, and each installment is ambitious in their own respects. Like others have mentioned in the comments, I appreciated the arc of Lupita's character. She starts the film thinking everything is sh!t (poem) but then after SURVIVING one hell of a day, getting that pizza and finding the totem of her father, the character went out with a bang (jazz song). I am loving this series of films; thinking about what new innovative ways the creatives can twist this idea is fascinating. Loved that she helped try to save those kids and she took on the lawyer as a stray. BRAVO
