Footage of the rare jellyfish species Anomalorhiza shawi filmed off the island Pulau Manukan in the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park in Sabah, Malaysia. The jellyfish was filmed during daytime and at first sight, had commensal fish in and around its body and a commensal crab hiding just under its bell at the base of the oral arms and mouth (@ 1:42). The commensals are clearly visible in the video. If anyone can confirm the exact species of fish and crab around and inside the jellyfish, please share this info in the comments section. Eternal gratitude from the scientific world will be yours :) The footage dates back to 2019 and the video quality is acceptable but unfortunately not great. Little is known about this species of rhizostome jellyfish (Cnidaria, Rhizostomeae). It is rarely encountered in the wild. As far as I can remember I have seen it twice in about 20 years of diving. It was first found in the Philippines, later also in Malaysian waters and around Hong Kong, so we can assume it is a common species in the South China Sea. The animal has been described for the first time in 1921 (Light).

More online info about Anomalorhiza shawi:
" ... A. shawi was found associated with other organisms such as the silver shad, Alepes vari (Cuvier, 1833) (Carangidae), and the crab Charybdis feriata (Linnaeus, 1758) (Portunidae). "
" ... The Rhizostomeae is one of the major orders of jellyfishes, and the most diverse, comprising 10 families and 26 genera (Daly et al., 2007). The members of this order can be distinguished from other orders under the class Scyphozoa by the lack of tentacles or other structures at the edge of the bell. They also have eight oral arms bearing suctorial mouths and are fused proximally (Daly et al., 2007). This distinguishes the rhizostome jellyfishes from other orders of Scyphozoa, which have four oral arms. "
"... this large jellyfish plays host to a number of commensal organisms, including fish, crabs and brittle stars. "

Jelly Dance - Song lyrics
You are Ocean’s silent child
A quiet being, free and wild
Always floating so calm and still
Ever-drifting at nature’s will
Your ancient spirit floating free
Has seen all wonders of the sea
You’ve met with giants, whales of blue
You heard their songs and know them true
Jellyfish we dream of you
Creature born of deep dark blue
Drifting for all eternity
Cursed with immortality
You’ve seen the corals grow up high
You know all creatures down below
You've seen shipwrecks and people die
You feel at home in deep and shallow
But you have a dark side if I may
Sudden strike’s your deadly way
Freeze the victim still and pale
A horrid death a tragic tale
But your beauty makes up for flaw
600 million years of time
Made you the most striking perfection
I ever saw
Jellyfish we dream of you
Creature born of deep dark blue
Drifting for all eternity
Cursed with immortality
I am lost in your tranquility
Please stop mesmerizing me
