In Russia we put blankets under the hood and plastic covers in front of the radiator. How does that happen ? Normally I also let my car run 3min in the morning before driving off.
@Rudolf2k
7 ай бұрын
@@brandope_420 Cold engine=Fuel enrichment and maximum gas bypass through the piston rings. This means that fuel and water enters the oil during cold start. When the oil gets up to temperature the oil and water evaporates and is sucked into the engine (for combustion) through the crankcase ventilation. Cold idling maximizes the amount of fuel in the oil, and because the engine oil never gets really varm at idle the fuel stays in the oil for an extended time. For the engine it is always best to start it and drive away after only a few seconds. No powerful accelerations until warmed up of course, just normal driving. This gets the engine up to temp much faster. Cars with automatic gearbox also has a special warm up program that changes the shift points to help the engine to warm up.

This is a common misconception. When stationary, the engine never gets as warm as it should. And you have the problem that the oil tends to dilute. So if you want to do something good for your engine in winter, then start, drive off leisurely and avoid excessively low and high rpms. Nature won't thank you: exhaust pollution treatment in cars need a minimum temperature before they work.
