Silent viewer here! (Normally I read through my long ass comments and delete them cause no one should have to read them lmao). With that out of the way, I can not express how much this channel has helped develop me over the years. I have changed so much as a person for the better and I want to give the biggest thanks to you Linh. Normally I would go on a rant of all the things this channel has done for me, but I will spare you and just say I have felt so much love and positivity through the screen and it has helped me through lots of tough times. Thank you for everything!

Hi Linh! As someone who’s just been through a similar career crises in overlapping fields, I want to let you know that sometimes it’s less of a “either working for an org/community or myself through YT” and more “how does each fill my cup or pour from it, and how do I schedule both into my life?” I say this because it seems like you truly find joy in both, and am almost telling yourself that YT is only temporary out of fear of disappointment yourself (because if you think about it, every job and endeavour is temporary in your life, existing for a limited amount of time). It’s worth noting in times of decision paralysis, too, that we spend more time decidING than living in a certain decision, when our goals are realised by the latter. There’s not many decisions in life that are reversible, especially when it comes to career so. Take a deep breath and go with the one that speaks to you the most!

Hi Linh! I can relate on the existential career thoughts. I live in DC like you and am in my mid-20s, and I was a lot like you when I was in college in the way that I put a lot on my plate and really felt like I had to have everything figured out regarding my career aspirations. After graduating undergrad I went to get a Master's (all according to plan) and realized mid-way through that I actually didn't know if the career path I'd chosen was right for me! To be honest, I still don't think that the career path I'm on now (which is advocacy-based, btw!) is what I'm meant to do, or what I really want to do for the rest of my life. The tricky thing is allowing yourself to be okay with the uncertainty. You will rarely (ever) feel like you have everything figured out, and there will always be 'what ifs'. I think the fact that you already have so many career-building skills that bring you joy is amazing! Yes, social media and YT may not be your forever career, but if it is bringing you joy right now, and if it is providing for your life right now, there is no need to quit early so that you can focus on another kind of career. I know it always feels a little shitty when someone says this, but it's really true: you are young, and you have so much time to figure things out. I burned myself out because of all the pressure I was putting on myself, and I don't want the same to happen to you. To be honest, if I could go back for any reason to being in my college years, I would just encourage myself to be in the present more and give myself more grace. Please don't forget to give some to yourself! xx

Sometimes I think that people think being an "influencer" is one specific thing (influencer events, making merch, making it your whole life, going to vidcon, etc.) but I think that content creators online have a lot more freedom than they think. I watch a lot of people who have a full-time job in the "real world" (software engineer, accountant, data analyst, etc.) who also do youtube and don't make it their whole life. If you want to build your whole life on youtube and create your own brand, that's fine! But if you want to have your own life and job and make youtube videos on the side, not as a side hustle or anything, but as a way to connect with people and as a creative outlet, that is still good and ok! I personally love watching the "a day in the life of a *insert real person job here* " videos bc it's a real person with a real person job and isn't super glorified, just telling us what happens in their day doing a job that someone else who's watching is going to be doing and knows what to expect, not to mention shows the variety of people that are in a field!

You encouraged me to romanticize the little things in life, like going for errands on my own and at my own pace, buying some food, coffee, or flowers for myself, studying at cafes with friends. This was such a wholesome video. Internships are tough, I did a work from home internship too and still felt very exhausted and emotionally drained. Whatever you decide, we support you, Linh ❤ With love, Anita

2:09 as a video editor & music lover, i totally agree!! i'm musically-inclined AND a perfectionist so it takes me hours upon hours just to find the music i want to use!

I love how much you show of your behind the scenes process of your content, it makes my heart happy as a film nerd 🥰. On the subject of which career path you might what to go down, as someone who worked for a non-profit organization, the pay you get from them is not really enough to live on in some ways. Many of my coworkers had to work a second job to make a stable income or live with tons of roommates or had to heavily rely on a spouse’s income. If you love the advocacy/non-profit work, then yes you will never work a day in your life, that and our found family camaraderie is what kept most of there before 2020, but definitely keep the social media as a side hustle because it will help you so much in the long run.📱
