Franklin & Marshall College Chamber Singers
William Wright, director
The composer of this piece, the German-Jewish composer born as Arthur Schlossberg, fled from Nazi Germany in 1933 and changed his name to Jean Berger (1909-2002). In 1962, while teaching at University of Colorado at Boulder, he was inspired to compose a musical setting of a poem written into a bookplate in 1825 by Maria Brubacher of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, which he discovered in a book about Pennsylvania German bookplates. The poem returns home to Lancaster in this rendition by the Franklin & Marshall College Chamber Singers.
