You have a very engaging way of communicating a serious subject.wish you could tell us about whether the curse on tombs can still work.also inspire of powerful priests why was the Egyptian religion crushed to extinction? Also it seems that the dead never had an after life.

I've played this 4 times already. Apparently this specific video has been perfect for sleep. Every time I'd wake up then struggle to fall back asleep, I'd play this again and be out cold within the first couple minutes. Maybe one of these times I'll actually catch the information ☠️

Hello, your videos are super cool and I have a question. Do we know how drastically the Egyptian theology changed over time becuase they were around for a really long time and that's a whole bunch of room for change. I can also see it staying pretty consistent though if thier religion played a huge part of thier lives.

"There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so". (Shakespeare) Does it tell us anything if life after death is taken more seriously than life itself? Maybe it was the beliefs(superstitions?) of that era that 'civilized' ancient Egypt, it may seem counter-intuitive to a scholar, but what else could have been used to impart the morality & ethics required to live amicably in an increasingly complex society, we still see that today, its modern day equivalent might be the 'doctrines' of political parties.

I was a little surprised to hear that there were no atheists or agnostics in Ancient Egypt. Do we really know enough about their society to say that? While not necessarily common even today, supernatural skepticism seems natural enough to me that it would have existed in ancient times. Is it actually considered to be a very recent development in our belief/disbelief system?

so true! we have no idea what people would have thought that long ago. atheism as a belief system most likely didn’t exist but i definitely agree that there were skeptics. atheism actually has a super interesting history. the way we think of it now (ie. belief that there is no god/higher power) is a pretty new concept for humanity. there are examples of atheists in antiquity but whats super interesting about that is that the term takes on a new meaning when we look that far back. in ancient greece for example religion and the state were one in the same, so if you went against the state-sanctioned religious ideologies you could be punished hardcore. an ancient greek figure who was labeled as an ‘atheist’ was Epicurus. he still believed in the gods but thought they just didnt care enough about humans to intervene on mortal life. he was called an atheist but…. was he really??? anyway i could go on lmao. atheism is hard to pin down but i find it pretty cool.

@@underthefigtreee Interesting. I would have expected a longer history of explicit atheism, but it sounds like it's newer than I thought: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_atheism

@@JohnViolette0 I guess it might be because Atheism on its own is not a belief system, but rather the LACK of one ? ... guessing it was kind of a MAJOR taboo also, to be a known non believer in a town / social setting where u might end up being blamed for the litteral PLAGUE if the wrong person found out ! .... xdxd

It's certainly the case that in many ancient and modern cultures, it's wise to be quietly discreet when disagreeing with a culture's religious beliefs.

It’s interesting that while Akhenaten’s Sun worshiping cult didn’t last long in Egypt, Carl Jung thought Akhenaten or one of his priests may have been Moses.
