At the 30 minutes mark, in stead of cutting the entire length and stripping away the insulation, you should just cut the width like Edd did, but keep the insulation intact and slide it towards and perhaps over the crimp connector. This way you get a nice and small opening for the gland “fingers” to connect to the shielding. No tape, no shrinking tube. That makes it much neater and easier to install. Little hint from an electrician 😉
@routercnc9517

I have done similar wiring and just cut a local section of insulation out where the earth gland goes but your idea is even better as it avoids the heat shrink. I’ll remember that one !

Loved this. I'm a old school carburettor and points mechanic. But, seeing this, it made me realise that so many of our old cars don't need to be scrapped. Surely, we'll get to a point where a 'motor/gearbox' combo can be bought off the shelf and millions of cars can have their petrol engines recycled, and the character preserved with an integrated new electric system.

Top tip. At 8:49 mark the pipe in its final position, as if pushed into the brass connector. When the brackets are loose and you push the pipe home, you'll know it's fully locked in when the pipe is straight, rather than displacing some of the pipe.

Loctite 577 is absolutely brilliant for metal on metal air/water joints - no need for ptfe tape, perfect airtight seal (better than I could get with ptfe) no leaks, and best of all you can position the fittings exactly in the right place like your pressure gauge etc without any leaking once cured... All removable too, not 100% permanent... I've used on air fittings, outside water tap (to get it nicely oriented), even pressure washer snowfoam lance after disassembly to clean gauze filter (also needed to be lined up right).
