A short story on the way from Chittagong Kumira Ghat to Sandeep.
The sun had barely risen above the horizon as Nasir made his way to the Kumira Ghat, a bustling river port on the outskirts of Chittagong. The air was thick with the aroma of spices and the sound of vendors haggling over prices filled the narrow streets. Nasir clutched his small bag tightly, his anticipation mounting with each step.
He had been waiting for this day for months - the day he would embark on a journey to Sandeep, a small village nestled in the hills, where his grandparents lived. It was a journey he had made many times before, but each time felt like a new adventure waiting to unfold.
As Nasir reached the ghat, he was greeted by the sight of boats bobbing gently in the water, their colorful sails unfurled in the morning breeze. He quickly found his usual boat, a weathered vessel named "Ruposhi," and greeted the captain, a stout man with a weather-beaten face named Akbar.
"Good morning, Nasir!" Akbar exclaimed, his voice booming over the din of the port. "Ready for another journey to Sandeep?"
Nasir nodded eagerly, his excitement palpable. He climbed aboard the boat, settling himself on a worn wooden bench as Akbar and his crew prepared to set sail. The engine roared to life, sending vibrations through the boat as they pulled away from the shore.
As they glided along the river, Nasir watched with fascination as the landscape changed around him. Tall buildings gave way to lush greenery, and the air grew fresher with each passing mile. Along the way, they passed other boats - some laden with cargo, others filled with passengers like himself, all bound for different destinations along the river.
As the morning wore on, Nasir struck up a conversation with an elderly woman sitting beside him. She told him stories of her own travels along the river, of the sights she had seen and the people she had met. Nasir listened intently, his imagination taking flight as he pictured himself on similar adventures.
Before long, the boat began to slow as they approached Sandeep. Nasir's heart quickened with anticipation as he caught sight of familiar landmarks - the winding riverbanks, the towering hills in the distance. As they docked at the small pier, Nasir leaped ashore, his excitement bubbling over.
He thanked Akbar and his crew for the journey before making his way up the narrow path that led to his grandparents' house. As he rounded the final bend, he was greeted by the sight of his grandparents standing on the porch, their faces breaking into smiles as they saw him approach.
"Welcome home, Nasir!" his grandmother exclaimed, pulling him into a tight embrace.
Nasir beamed with joy as he hugged them back, feeling a sense of warmth and belonging wash over him. As he stepped into the familiar surroundings of his grandparents' home, he knew that no matter where his travels took him, Sandeep would always hold a special place in his heart.
