Andy - the grin on your head as the cloud broke showed how much you enjoyed that! I had a similar one last winter on Nan Bield / Mardale - spent 2-3 hours climbing up in a virtual whiteout cursing as to why I was out is such crap conditions - and then as I was heading over to Kidsty I felt sudden warmth on my back and the clouds just rolled away before me and within seconds I was in sunshine. Absolutely magical, I captured the rolling clouds over the snowy hills and you could have been in the Alps/Canada/Anywhere, we are lucky to live where we live

Just stumbled across your channel. Great stuff. A pal of mine and me (both Barnsley boys) did Y Garn in summer about twelve years ago. A lot easier than your effort, I’m sure, but still a challenge to two old guys in their late fifties. We’d done Tryfan and liked the look of Y Garn because it looked like a “proper” mountain with the shape of its summit.

Now that is proper 👍🏼 Brilliant again Andy. I would love to learn some winter skills. I know local knowledge is worth so much, but how are you navigating an area like that? Are you just sure of where you’re going/where you are, having planned? Do you use tech/gps or good old fashioned maps/compass? Your knowledge and confidence never fails to impress 👍🏼 Cheers, Gary B

Another cracking adventure Andy and I agree with the other poster, you’re streets ahead when it comes to these type of videos. It’s been over forty years since I did any snow and ice climbing but we were taught to always use a leash on the axe so if you slipped you didn’t accidentally loose it when you needed it most. Maybe that view has changed?
@peterholmes3011

Always use one on mine.
@AndrewBeavers

do agree re the leash & it comes down to personal choice & the pro's & cons too..i do have one attached to my grivel walking axe but not my blue ice one..in my experience & having done winter skills course a long time ago all depends on what the terrain looks like it will have in store..i guess it all comes down to wether you can trust you're self when using an axe to ascend/descend rather than using one as a walking aid..all good advice though & imo there's no real wrong or right way of using one as long as its used correctly if that makes sense lol..
