It's good to see Rhys back. Are you finding GPT4 a big improvement with things like being able to keep context over longer periods of time?

It definitely is. It’s also better at math which makes for easier combats. It really is just much more powerful.

ChatGPT giving you that full dream sequence was amazing. By the way, the name Niamh is an Irish name that is pronounced Neeve. I agree with you about the combat. ChatGPT isn’t going to give you a combat where the party struggles or in which one of them even goes down. It’s far too keen on its happy ever after resolution to the story.

Yo if I didn’t have the comments section for these names I’d have no hope lol. I wouldn’t have guessed that one in 100 years. And yeah unless you give it specific instructions to allow for character death (which sometimes it misinterprets as violence) GPT can be a kid glove DM. Yeah it prioritized the narrative hard. I’m gunna play around with some different combat prompting in GPT 4 and see what I can come up with.

Hello, I started watching the series and got inspired to try something like this out, but currently ChatGPT tell me it can´t DM a story. Does anyone else have this issue or is it just me? Amazing series btw. Definatly makes me want to play some more dnd.

Yeah I’ve noticed a good amount of people getting a similar response. One thing that might help is replacing any requests with commands “You have all the skills and knowledge to dm a 5e dnd campaign. Dungeons master a game…..” something along those lines instead of “could you dm a dnd campaign” could you is the question it will answer instead of trying to accomplish the task

@@TBLReady Thanks! I kept messing around and asked it if it could help me build a adventure for the character and everything went smoothly. I just had to specify that I'd be rolling and giving it the result and how I'd be talking in and out of game. Thanks a lot for the idea and good luck with your videos. I'm really enjoying them!

i wonder if you could try this out with someone else, so 2 people wuld be players and the AI is the DM.

Oh for sure. There are ppl in the comments that play with their kid. I have t done it yet but I’d imagine if you tell it you want to put “{“ before player A’s inputs and “}” before player B’s it would help it differentiate between players

I must ask, do you play through the session and film after the fact or do you film live and edit after? The people must know. 😂

I do a mixture of both. I usually start the first few prompts before to make sure the Ai is cooperating. Then I try to play as I record and stop if I want to do something cool. I also am not the strongest reader so a paragraph often takes me more than one take.

Typical D&D roleplaying... 😆 A few people presumably stole money. Then a group of “heroes” takes the matter into their own hands. No proof needed, no questions asked they decapitate said group while accompanying the slaughter with cheerful music. 😅

@@TBLReady Yeah, and even if they were guilty I would argue that the death penalty for stealing is completely out of proportion. Even in the Middle Ages they “only” would cut off one hand. Furthermore they might have had a motive for stealing like a poor family that needs their support. Humans are usually not evil for the sake of being evil. 😅 As a storyteller it can be quite a challenge to get players to treat NPCs like real human beings or let their own characters show emotions like fear. Anyway, at the end of the day it’s also a matter of preferences and personal taste. Not everyone wants more realism in their fantasy world. And I am really happy to see more ChatGPT related RPG content again. Keep in mind to that ChatGPT has not infinite memory, so let it summarize your story now and then. 😊

Yeah I Noah and Rhys were surprised the party just slaughtered them. It goes to show you it understands fully the nature of the murder hobo haha I am planning on doing different game types in the future. Some ultra realistic and some slapstick (using different author styles to support GPT)

@@TBLReady "Yeah I Noah and Rhys were surprised the party just slaughtered them." --> Too bad that didn't come across. ^^ I think this behaviour is also partly supported by the setting. High Fantasy feels very artificial and unrealistic. By default, it's harder to truly immerse oneself in it and react more naturally with one's character. This is one of the reasons why I personally prefer darker, low Fantasy settings like "A Song of Ice and Fire" or horror RPGs like "Chronicles of Darkness". Even though they are all fictional settings, it's easier for me to find them more believable because of their darker tone and limited magic. Furthermore I really like it when magic is still kind of mysterious and not completely comprehensible. This is also why I suspect that High Fantasy is one of the reasons why "murder hobos" are more common in D&D, along with the strange belief that some people have that you can "win" a roleplaying game. 😅

💯 I feel that for sure. Sometimes I need that realism and touch of weight to the world that comes with it. Real consequences and blind spots make for a lot of fun. I made a TTRPG just for me and my friends where everyone plays normal people in a magical world (low magic but still). It’s awesome because they know combat is a death sentence if not well prepared for. Magical allies also become a form of boon to the party when they are in a pinch.
