My second country, Israel, is going through a dark time and this piece reflects my hope that everyone will again find lasting peace and prosperity. It is based on several traditional Jewish and Israeli tunes, in a 4 movement sonata.
The first movement is based on Ma'oz Tzur - a medieval Hanukkah song, rendered in sonata form.
The second movement is based on the Jewish prayer 'Shema Ysrael' (Listen Israel).
The third movement is a minuet based on the passover song Dayenu, and the Hanukkah song Sevivon.
The last movement is a set of variations on Hatikvah (The Hope) which is Israel's national anthem.
